I wonder if this will be a turnoff for commentators? You’d have to think getting to see games around the country is a big part of the allure of the job. Sitting at home, watching it on TV, and talking with a buddy is something anyone can do

They’ve been doing this for college basketball for a few years now and it’s absolutely noticeable. Just miserable to listen to them attempting to match the energy of the arena.

I can’t imagine they will continue to do remote commentary once Covid is completely over

I wish the crews would have been there in person, I wanna know how close that potential grand slam was to being fair

I bet Ben McDonald hates this

He’s about as conservative as it gets but does a great job showing restraint on air.

Yes, just announcing crews

Gotcha. ESPN has already been contracting local announcing crews for college baseball. They’ve done that for a few seasons now. Richard Cross and the other guy(can’t remember name) are partnered with the OM radio network.

I’m guessing it’s the same for all schools. All of the broadcasts have been tremendously biased towards the home team this season.

Maybe it used to be, but some of the people I've had to listen to call games really sound like they aren't interested in sports outside of the job they have to do.

It feels like it's going the way of sports journalism. By that I mean people with the applicable college degrees get the jobs in the sports sector because they can't find jobs in the field they actually wanted to work in so we're stuck with goofballs that don't have a clue what they're watching.

Yep, it is. They do that with college basketball games in the non-conference, too.

It's definitely a better product than having "non-biased" guys doing it from their office in Atlanta or Charlotte.

Depends on the area really

Some areas still aren’t even 50% vaccinated

I mean just yesterday the leader in a golf tourney tested positive

A lot of places in the south are 100% capacity but not around the country

Yeah we either get our radio guys and ESPN just streams our stadium video feed or we get Lynn Rollins with Ronnie Rantz or Ben McDonald with what used to be CST. Only games not like that are the SECN games of the week

Ours are split between radio broadcast and a different, TV specific local broadcast with Eli and Lance Cormier.

Just odd to me seeing Miami and UF elicited by teams who's name starts with South. Really, no excuse for Maimi to ever suck in baseball.
