A listener made a Public Records request for Nate Oats contract today. The Board of Trustees has apparently not met yet and approved/signed it. BBN is insane

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama head basketball coach Nate Oats had a new contract approved by the UA system Board of Trustees on Monday afternoon.
The contract, which extends Oats until the March 14, 2030, makes him one of the top-5 highest-paid coaches in college basketball, now with an annual salary of $5 million dollars the first year, and escalates to $7.55 million by the final year of his contract. His buyout was increased as well, and now sits at $18 million in the first two years.

“Approved by the board” doesn’t necessarily mean signed by the cognizant board member with the signing authority.

If Oats were to leave Alabama in the first two years of his contract, he would owe the school $18 million. After March 31, 2026, the buyout falls to $10 million for one year until March 31, 2027.

It's odd to see a guy who basically called for Oats to be fired and sent to the gulag 12 months ago to now be advocating for his school to spend money on the biggest coach buying buyout in college athletics history on that same individual.

Maybe I'm just old school but is it crazy to me that these high 7 figure contracts are done via docusign? I figured that'd be something you'd wanna meet in person and put pen to paper for.

Kentucky can't afford to buy out Alabama.

I would think you would be raising hell that your school is hiring a "murderer".

What happened?? I woke up and learned that Kentucky was a stepping stone to the Arkansas job

Watching Kentucky fans be desperate for Alabama's coach is fun.

There are a ridiculous number of safeguards to make sure even minor contracts are not sketchy when you use e-signatures. Big time lawyers and IT firms have a lot of liability so they make sure every angle is considered.

Have seen incorrect information floating around about Nate Oats’ latest contract at Alabama. It is signed by all parties and the Board of Trustees approved it in March
