Not sure where to start on this

Only a handful of teams have the talent in sufficient numbers to win in football.

This seems to imply that football is the more difficult to win.

I guess you're referring to that handful of teams? In that case, then yes it is more difficult for the Alabamas and LSUs of the world to win at basketball than football. But for the most of the field, it is easier to win basketball.

You are saying the best mid major can beat a Top 8 team. I'm saying just a random year conference champ of the Sun Belt or MAC, not an undefeated top 15 team like UCF or Cincy.

Because that happens in basketball 1-2 times a year.

I just gave an example, there are plenty more. The point is the best team doesn't always win.

But feel free to keep trying to convince me that losing games to easier competition is more difficult than losing games to harder competition.

For P5 programs, there are 36 at-large bids up for grabs, not 68. The other 32 bids go directly to conference champions.

So, it isnt necessarily the top 68 teams who make the tournament. Just ask this years Belmont squad.

I don't think that was my point at all.

You keep telling me that losing to mid major conference champions indicates it's harder.

From a traditional football power’s perspective, yes.

From a team like Vanderbilt’s perspective, no.

Basketball is a tough sport to win a championship in a single elimination setup. Often the best basketball team in a given year doesn't even win the tournament. It is more about the synergy of being talented enough and lucky enough to hit a key player or entire team groove at the right time.

Alabama in the postseason - even in the SEC tournament - had a problem where it felt like Herb and Petty could never manage to have a good game on offense at the same time. Alabama never really rediscovered the groove they had earlier in 2021 but they still clawed their way to an SEC Tourney title and Sweet 16. Probably peaked too soon but that's the way it goes...

Seems like you’re trying hard to not comprehend and be contrary. Really, that’s kind of a compliment because you’re not dumb I don’t think at all.

This, when applied to the NCAA Tournament, just reinforces the argument that it’s harder to win.

A single-game elim 64 team tournament has a shite ton of variance factored in. Some people call it luck. I would argue the best team rarely wins. The larger the same size or the smaller the sample group, the more likely the best team wins.

Again though, it depends on who you're talking about

Arkansas will probably never win another national championship in football, mainly due to recruiting. Does that mean it's harder or easier to win them in football?

College basketball it's easier to knock out a more talented team than football. But it's also easier to get knocked out by a less talented team.

So in conclusion it's both easier and harder to win the Final Four.

Hope I made that clear for yall.

Depends on who you are - if you aren't a blue blood, it is much easier compared to football.

I just think it's a fallacy that one is somehow harder than the other. In the end, there is only 1 team that can be the national champion in either sport.

Even if you had a 64 team CFB playoff, I don't think you would see a team like BYU, Coastal Carolina, or ULL sniffing the Final 4 or teams that went .500 in conference play getting to the Final 4.

If you don't win the division you get the random one off game. I'm alright with that.

In basketball, yeah.

Do you think an SEC football team who went 4-4 in SEC play would win 4 games in an 64 team CFP to make it to a CFP Final 4.

It's unlikely but it wouldn't be that shocking. A 64 team field in football would be full of really bad teams.
