If you mean 2007 LSU from the standpoint of losing to Arkansas and Kentucky then that’s one thing but from starting the season at #2, them being national champions in the end wasn’t all that shocking.

Nah FSU got a lot of title game Ls like 4 or 5

Plus that was a loaded team

UF 06 comes to mind. 2 QB system. Never really blew anyone out all year just scrape by lost to Auburn. Won the sec in a tough game vs Ark then destroyed OSU

Also the scar game with the blocked FGs

A lot of people really wanted Michigan/OSU rematch

I'd go Florida 2006, Auburn 2010, or LSU 2019

All three no one really saw coming. Especially Florida and LSU.

Auburn or 07 LSU. The rest were pretty much loaded teams and people saw it coming

While UT was a pretty loaded team,I'm not sure a lot of folks expected Tee Martin to lead em to a NC after Peyton left.

Yeah I think that was the biggest surprise.

Miss State was actually leading them almost the entire game in the Sec championship game but they scored like twice in the final minutes.

Having said that, they did go undefeated and won the natty so I just can’t take that away from them.

07 LSU was pretty unlikely

As unlikely as it was, 2007 LSU was the first and possibly the only team ever to beat 6 teams that FINISHED in the AP top 15. There was definitely luck in how we ended up in the championship game, but their accomplishment of beating 6 teams that finished in the top 15 was previously unmatched.

What year did Alabama beat Miami in the Sugar Bowl, 1993?

I know Bama was undefeated, but that was when Miami was killing everyone, and none of the old teams were strong anymore. Everyone figured the Tide was just a sacrificial lamb.

I think you're misremembering. It was 10-7 Tennessee going into the 4th.

That Sugar Bowl win certainly surprised a lot of non-Bama fans. A lot of us saw Miami struggle to beat Arizona (who had a good defense but Alabama's was better) and knew we had a shot.

Of course, absolutely destroying them wasn't expected either. Their offense only scored 2 FGs; our defense scored more TDs than their offense did.

A favorite tidbit of mine from that game is that George Teague had a Pick 6 in that game. Getting a pick 6 in a national championship game vs a Heisman winning QB is usually a career-level highlight; for Teague, it wasn't even his biggest highlight in that one game.

It was unexpected in the sense that most people thought if it happened that it would have happened with Peyton instead of Tee, but not unexpected for that time frame. Those 90s UT squads were loaded and were in the hunt most of that decade.

Peyton couldn't beat Florida, period. I'll call it the most unexpected in one sense, they were now leaning on a run game that otherwise would not have been fully utilized with Manning. Not even close.

Jamael Lewis, Travis Henry, Travis Stevens on the ground and pound and then handing it over to Al Wilson and company on the defense. Tee Martin barely threw the ball north of 2000 yards.

Imagine, a prolific ground attack and tenacious defense win championships. If only Peyton knew.
