You're thinking of 2005 when we had to start JT3 against urban yet still somehow almost pulled it off.

Now losing 14-18 to Arkansas State at home, that was inexplicable.

This was the game when Greene had the offense playing well early, but Richt put Shockley in, Shockley threw a pick six, and the offense died after that.
I never liked how Richt handled those two. He should have put Shockley in as a curveball when Greene was struggling, but he put Shockley in for the third series every game no matter what, which sometimes threw off the offense if Greene was playing well early.

Some great ones for VOLS have already been mentioned, so I submit 2011 UK, where we lost to a backup WR playing QB. UK had 15 passing yards and 124 rushing yards.
That loss broke a 27 game streak over UK, which was the longest active single-opponent streak at the time. Funny enough, UF’s streak over UK then because the longest one.

agree. And I totally undersatnd the flip side too. Like it's easy to say that if Greene is not doing great and you put DJ in, is that going to completely tank DG's confidence? And you've also got DJ on pins and needles all game wondering if the next drive will be one he's in. By saying "DJ is going in the 3rd series every game" it removes the nerves and question marks and all that. So I GET IT. But.....as you said, it really friggin sucks if DG is playing great and the offense is humming then you completely throw it off.

Not even remotely 'inexplicable.' Saban was clearing out the Shula rot that first year and the game fell at the end of the year right between two quality teams in MSU and AU (which were after #20 UT and #3 LSU), when Bama was limping along.
If we're going "recent," I'll go with that 2018 Playoffs 44-16 loss to Clemson. Bama letting that squad do that at the (near) height of the dynasty was wild. Many claim Clemson stole Bama's signs. That doesn't excuse the loss or that performance. One of the few games during the Saban tenure where the game was truly never in doubt (going the other way). Actually, at present I can't even think of another one of those, although I'm sure I'm forgetting something.

Eh, SC was pretty good in 2000. That wasn't a fluke, all things considered. 2019, though, I'll give you that. I'm partially convinced that was Kirby throwing Muschamp a bone.
For SC, most inexplicable loss was 2013 to UTK. That UTK team was dogshit, and SC had no business blowing that game. Cost Spurrier a golden opportunity at an SEC title.

That was a bad loss but Bama was 6-6 and Saban hadn’t established his roster yet.
That team was not very good.
To me the 2018 blowout loss to Clemson in the NC in Santa Clara was far more inexplicable beyond the assistant coaches who were leaving being too lazy to change the signs that Venable had clearly stolen.
Clemson was very good but that Bama team was far too good to be blown out.

2013 USC was the best team in the country and a miracle one handed no look catch beat us. That and Spurriers horrible clock management was also always an issue. UT should of never had a chance to run anymore offense. 2011 Auburn and of course Navy in 84 cost us a Natty.
