Now Arkansas needs to claim 77.

And it's 100% their fault. They were #1 in both the AP and Coaches on the final week of the regular season and got their arse beat at home by Kansas.

This was when the championship was awarded before the bowl games. Missouri then went and blasted Navy in its bowl. Champion Minnesota lost their bowl. 3 years later, largely due to this controversy, the award was changed to include Bowl Results. Had the award taken place post bowls it's likely Missouri would have been given the Championship.

Go right ahead and claim it.
No harm done.

quote:So Minnesota was #2 going into the final week? I believe that was the year Ole Miss beat and do over with LSU 21-0 in Sugar Bowl but back then NCs were picked before the bowls. Ole Miss gave up 14 points the whole year. Minnesota lost 1 regular plus their bowl.

I'm thinking Missouri should table the motion.

This is usually my go-to source:
Tip Top 25
By this analysis, Missouri barely re-rates into the #4 spot.
But on the bright side, they edge out Ole Miss, who re-rates to #5

Please do. It will make Auburn's move of claiming past titles *slightly* less embarrassing.

About time.
kansas cheats harshed our mellow way too long.
We are the champions, my friend.

Little story about that kansas game and the week leading up to it. Devine was wound tight as a drum that week and had them practice more(and with more intensity)than they had all season.
In addition to that, a flu bug went through the locker room that week. Several Mizzou players, including my dad, had to get an IV at halftime, but to a man NONE of them wanted to claim shite because of that loss.
They lost. They knew they were beaten that day by a good team with some damn good players, including John Hadl (who is pictured in my avatar) getting tackled by my personal hero.
We didn't win it. Wish we had, because I'd have a pretty sweet ring.

What a gay way to claim a national championship.

We’re learning!

This is much worse than Auburn’s Playboy National Championship in 2004 or whatever year they went unbeaten and magazine they claimed.
Posted on 8/6/26 at 10:16 pm to KCM0Tiger
Go on and claim it. Auburn claimed like 20 overnight without congressional oversight.

There’s 0 reason not to claim this based off the metrics so many others use to claim their titles. It still will not mean as much as actually winning one on the field in the modern era but based off how things used to be handled. Why not?
Winspedia also added it as a Mizzou national title today. FWIW.

Well there's a difference between claiming a MNC (normal) and claiming you went 11-0 despite actually going 10-1. Like when Gundy made the 11-2 rings for Oklahoma St when they actually went 10-3.

The official record has always been disputed. I would always prefer to win it on the field but if I remember right Kansas used a player from TCU in the game that was sitting out that year after a booster paid to have him transfer. That is pretty egregious levels of cheating for that day.

The only reason he was allowed to play is because Kansas fought to delay his eligibility hearing until after the season. Not only did they have to forfeit the Mizzou game, but also their “win” against Colorado.
They absolutely knew he was ineligible and played him anyway. There’s a word for that.
And it’s not like he was inconsequential in the disputed game. He scored two touchdowns.

I’d be embarrassed to cheer for a school that makes these spurious claims to national championships. I mean, who does that?
