This shite is so pathetic. If LA does this I’m completely out unless it’s done for all residents. These guys are paid mercenaries and get out of paying income tax while hardworking people in MS will still pay it.
Shame on Mississippi. We either all pay tax or none of us do.

Just state taxes. The feds will hit them hard.
No income tax in Texas and Tennessee and Florida either

I honestly thought about bunch of SEC States like Alabama and Arkansas approved this. Shocked we'd consider it but it won't pass the senate

This is finally the bridge too far
Frick all this
These guys make more than most anyone anyway. They can pay taxes
This is retarded

No way it passes the Senate. For once, I’ll side with the Jackson Dems on this. Will it hurt us in recruiting? Maybe. But this shite is bigger than damn football. These kids are already getting a free ride, then they also get paid hundreds of thousands, sometimes millions of dollars, and we want to make them not pay state taxes?
frick that and frick whoever supports it

There’s a possibility it doesn’t pass the MS senate.
There’s been some rumble here in Kentucky with doing similar and across the spectrum people aren’t thrilled about it. Tax breaks in poor states for folks who will see more money in one year then some will in a lifetime isn’t well received (rightfully so).

Let’s get PBM reform and other actual important bills for the state passed instead of dumb shite like this
What the frick are we doing .

If an entire state has no income tax that's one thing; why give these players a benefit other citizens of the state don't enjoy?

One of the poorest states out there. Should go over really well with the constituents.

You got a link, because I have not heard any discussion on this. A simple google search also has not shown any “ rumble”.

Make 'em pay their tuition, room and board.

There’s a great irony here.
People generally don’t like NIL and how it’s used (for the most part), but people caring so much about winning that the House wants to exempt NIL income from state taxes is why you have NIL in the first place.
I have said before that CFB right now is a Mexican standoff. No one wants to shoot or die but no one trusts anyone else enough to put their gun down. Even Dabo is doing what’s necessary now from an NIL and portal standpoint.
This stuff will never be sane until the fans walk away (unlikely) or someone with skin in the game and millions to earn (an AD, coach, etc.) is willing to accept a disadvantage on principle and likely lose because of it (also unlikely).
I fully support the players being paid (and fairly taxed), but they’re not getting a dime of my money beyond my eyes on a TV screen or a once-a-decade trip to a game. I’m not directly paying shite for anything - NIL, facilities, whatever. Never have.
I’m a Bama alumnus and former walk-on, but the Tide can lose every game from now until the end of time before I give a penny. BUT some more passionate fans are not going to watch the Tide get beat to death year after year and will begrudgingly pay whatever to keep them winning. Other fan bases will do the same.
But I must admit that as someone who doesn’t really care who wins and loses, the NIL and portal drama is entertaining to watch.

We went from "I need a little pocket money to take my girlfriend to dinner" to "I shouldn't have to pay any taxes on the millions of dollars I make"
In less than 5 years.
I hope these types of blatantly unconstitutional laws are challenged aggressively.
Letting college professional athletes be exempt from taxes just because people like sports is fing retarded and illegal.

The rich athletes driving around campus in their Mercedes Benz while the common students eat Ramen Noodles from Wal Mart.

There wouldn’t be a link since it’s just chatter among legislators between committee meetings (know some folks in Frankfort through work and previous job). Some UofL folks have been trying to get in the ear of state folks to do similar. It’s just wildly unpopular so it’s not getting much traction. A lot of waiting to see who else does it/how it gets implemented elsewhere.
