don’t actually believe LSU started the SEC.
LSU did start it along with 12 other teams that broke away from the Southern Conference.
How is an Ole Miss fan confused by this?

Mid afternoon or night… yall go to bed drinking and wake up drinking. You won’t know the difference

Poor ol LSU can’t make noise or stay 4 quarters unless it’s a 6:30 kickoff :(

Posted in the other thread, but worth sharing in this one too. Shows how silly LSU complaining about this game not being at night really is.

"Special treatment"? This nite game tradition started back in the 1950's. A large number of LSU fans back then worked in the River's chemical plants during the day, weekends as well. The La. Governor, looking at a lot of union votes, mandated that LSU play nite games so those voters could attend LSU games. There were no tv games then, only radio coverage, so each school was able to schedule as it pleased. This is not LSU complaining about "prime time" games, it's just following tradition. Like LSU always wearing white jerseys at home games, though tv now has a lot to say about jersey colors.

Lane bitched about it, so you might want to rethink that.

Bama and the Birmingham SEC headquarters tells you to give up night games just like they have already done with the upcoming Bama/LSU game. Whatcha gonna do about it?
Ask “Colostomy bag” Sankey what Lane is going to do about it?
Lane is about to breakout his chainsaw gorilla dick and go to town on the SEC office. They will need a colorectal surgeon and a urologist to put everything back together when Lane gets through with their asses.

4 pages and nobody has stated the simple fact that the SEC doesn't choose kickoff time. ESPN does that.

They do it in conjunction

As I understand it, only the SEC decides the dates, then ESPN decides what channel and what time. The SEC can beg and plead and make their case, but ultimately ESPN makes the call.

Difference is you "tradition" costs other teams night games. No one is going to be willing to give LSU every night slot on every Saturday solely because you are LSU and the fact you all think you deserve it for no other reason is crazy.

I'm not sure Alabama will ever be able to surmount that home field advantage that is Tiger Stadium after dark...

SEC wasn't ruined with 16 teams in the 90s. You only get your fair share now.
quote:
1931–1983: The Pre-Television Era (Night Share: ~85% | Win Rate: ~74%)
LSU holds absolute autonomy over its home slate. Games are deliberately scheduled after 6:00 PM local time to counter Louisiana’s heavy heat and cater to local industries. Winning percentages remain consistently high because the severe home-field advantage is fully preserved.
1984–1995: The CFA & Early Cable Era (Night Share: ~75% | Win Rate: ~71%)
Following the 1984 Supreme Court ruling (NCAA v. Board of Regents of the University of Oklahoma), individual conferences gain the right to sell their own television packages. For the first time, regional broadcast networks begin forcing select marquee matchups out of the night window and into daytime slots.
1996–2023: The SEC on CBS Era (Night Share: ~65% | Win Rate: ~75% / Day Rate: ~.488)
CBS acquires exclusive rights to the premier weekly SEC game. Because network contracts lock the "Game of the Week" into a fixed 3:30 PM Eastern (2:30 PM Local) window, LSU is repeatedly stripped of its night advantage for massive matchups. This creates a massive performance split: LSU holds an elite .880 night record since 2000 but plunges to a sub-.500 record in daytime home games against ranked opponents.
The 2011 Pivot: The "Game of the Century" Exception
The historic 2011 9-6 overtime regular-season clash between #1 LSU and #2 Alabama registers a massive 20.01 million viewers. Recognizing the insane television value of Death Valley at night, CBS negotiates a permanent loop allowing them to broadcast one high-profile night game a year, usually reserved for Alabama.
2024–2026: The ABC/ESPN Takeover (Night Share: ~85.7% | Win Rate: ~88%)
ESPN and ABC secure exclusive rights to the SEC portfolio, officially dissolving the rigid 3:30 PM CBS daylight constraint. ABC moves to a highly flexible scheduling model. They deliberately maximize LSU's night slotting to feed off the stadium's elite primetime atmosphere. By 2026, LSU's night-game share scales back up to 85.7%, nearly identical to its 1930s baseline

Reading is one thing but comprehending is another. You should try harder on that second part.
