I imagine the seniors from these 5-7 teams assumed the seasons were over and have been checked out of the programs for weeks. Not to mention the guys who plan to transfer.
This. Pretty hard to change course on short notice.

With Auburn opting out, they should not be eligible for any bowl revenue sharing.

Auburn did not Opt-out of a bowl game. Kansas State (8-4), N. Dame (10-2) and Iowa State(8-4) all opted out. KS and IS were fined by the Conference. Teams with 5 win seasons, chose not to accept. that is an important difference. MSU took the bowl as they had a staff and returning players, Auburn did not have a staff and would have been impossible to implement an Offense in order to play. Also player opt outs would have been huge and would have forced more folks into the portal.

Many of those teams werent even originally qualified for a bowl and others have coaching changes.

Notre Dame is the only major opt out.

How much money are they forfeiting? Like $1M each that’s supposed to go to the conference pot?

And the conferences should "fine" them for loss of conference revenue.

Thanks Rooster.

The smaller schools, I understand this. Their Athletic Departments can't take the hit.

PLUS, a 5 win team shouldn't even be eligible to participate in a bowl.

So they opted out of accepting a bowl they were offered?

I guess it saves me the cost of buying a GA Southern sweatshirt to wear to the Bham Bowl so I shouldn’t complain.

Notre Dame 10-2
Kansas State 6-6
Iowa State 8-4

I guess that explains why the Big 12 is fining Iowa State and Kansas State a half million bucks each.

The ACC (?) should fine Notre Dame ... amirite?

It's big boy football now....playoff or bust. bowl games are a dying on the vine.
They'll have to turn bowl games into a NIT version to keep people attending them and corp sponsors footing the bills.

Rutgers declined a second time, for emphasis.

Because they are some bitches who don't want to risk being embarrassed on television again. That program is back to being pre Bowden irrelevant because they can't afford to fire Norvell and are not attractive enough to hire a good coach even if they had the money.

You love to see it.

sounds like its time for them to go back to florida state college for women

Does no one enjoy playing football anymore. It’s like people are only playing a kids game unless they are being paid. I do not understand this.

If some of these teams play and are forced to play some kids who haven’t played much all year, there’s a real risk of creating portal opportunities if the kid shows out.

Guess they probably want to avoid that.

I think part of the reason is similar to teams canceling spring games. Teams don't want other coaches/teams to see their younger players. They're worried they'll try to take them by contacting their agent.

Why is fsu not playing? They need practices in the worst way. That is nuts
Probably the same reason Auburn is, they don't have a complete staff. A lot of the old coaches have left, the new ones that are there don't even know the name of the players yet. Getting ready for a bowl game during the middle of a complete staff turnover is a lot to ask.

So what your say'n is only portal and guys turning pro are the most important players. What about those that stuck it out for 4 yrs and knowing that the higher paid players didn't want to play. What a farce and to think we all thought playing football was a team sport, my was we wrong
