We have not had a thousand yard WR, but we had a guy who wore watches.

So we’re good.

AJ Green never got a thousand yards? That's insane considering he has Stafford.

Terry Beasley in 1970
One of my favorite players that played for Auburn. Pat Sullivan to Terry Beasley was fun to watch. I might be misremembering, but it seems they were both in the running for the Heisman? Is that right, or am I older than I thought I was?

ETA
Just looked it up, and apparently I am older than i thought. Don't see Beasley anywhere in the Heisman voting. He was still one of my favorite receivers.

Georgia has always pretty much spread the ball around. That is one explanation for that.
That said he had 963 yards his freshman season.
He was injured for a good portion of his sophomore season.
He was suspended for the first 4 games of his junior season for selling his jersey to a former North Carolina player for $1,000 and still managed 848 yards.
He went pro and did not play his senior year.

His highest was 964 in 2008.

Both first team all americans but nah Pat won over Ed Marinaro at Cornell, Greg Pruitt from Oklahoma and Johnny Musso (the Italian Stallion) from Bama.

Terry was a personal hero of mine growing up. I got to meet him in around 2005. Just a large hearted man.

Was curious and looked it up for SC. Their last 1000+ yard receiver was Xavier Legette in 2023.

Alabama didn't even have one until 1993 (David Palmer); then DJ Hall did it twice in 2006 & 2007.

So we had just 1 in 1993 and 3 total by 2007; now we have at least 13 (including two each from 2019 and 2021).

From what I can tell, Alabama 1000 yard receivers in the national title season 2020 (DeVonta Smith), 2015 (Calvin Ridley), and 2012 (Amari Cooper - barely). The other titles under Nick Saban (2009, 2011, 2017) did not have a thousand yard receiver.

That said... every single one of those seasons had a 1,000 yard rusher:
2020 - Najee Harris
2017 - Damien Harris (barely)
2015 - Derrick Henry (record-breaking year)
2012 - Eddie Lacy
2011 - Trent Richardson
2009 - Mark Ingram

And while 2017 barely had a single player break 1,000 yards (Damien Harris is listed as having 1,000 exactly), that team was 13th in the nation in rushing offense as we also had Jalen Hurts (855 yards) and the following RBs also taking carries:
Bo Scarborough
Najee Harris
Josh Jacobs
Brian Robertson Jr

To be fair neither Auburn nor Georgia has given a shite about passing offense.

RBU Gods pulling the offense back is why Freeze struggled.

We're almost cursed with stuff like this imo.

Pickens: Jr. Year, tore his ACL during a non-contact spring practice, went pro afterwards

AD Mitchell: could've returned as our unquestioned #1 transferred to TX instead

Jermaine Burton: same as Mitchell, transferred to Bama instead

Brock Bowers: 943 yds in 2022 but only played 10 games in 2023 due to injury

Stat is extremely overrated.

Ole Miss had the deepest WR/TE corps in the country this past season and made the Playoff Semis without a 1000 yard Receiver. Meanwhile AJ Brown put together back to back 1250+ yard campaigns and we couldn't win 4 conference games. All that being said, LOL @ Auburn and Florida.

I just remember a lot of talk surrounding them. Not surprising that Beasley was a good guy off the field.

Drought before the current one from Ronney Daniels was even longer. Terry Beasley in 1970. Only other Auburn receiver that’s ever had a 1k season.

I will never forget Terry Beasley on the Bob Hope All American Show...

"Terrah Beasley... Awbun Universiteh"....

Back when southern boys talked like southern boys.

I really miss regional accents.

Makes you wonder why any 5 star WR would go to AU or Georgia
