Alabama only counts NC won on the field.
Except for all of those retroactive NCs you claim from the 20s and 30s. Then there is that 1941 where you finished 3rd in the SEC but claim a NC.
Oh, and don't forget 1964...and then there are '73 and '78 where the other "so-champion beat your asses ON THE FIELD.

Poll era awarded titles
Bama-13
Notre Dame -8
5 more than the second place team. Pick any 4 you want to remove and still more than any other team. I guess Bama is the expert on football titles.

I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything. And it is not a stereotype, our football program sucks right now. You are free to pass this thread on by if you are one of the "football is the only sport that matters" type.
It's a free country numbnuts. I'll post what the frick I want to post.

Technically not recognized by the NCAA but if Bama can claim 18 or whatever in FB then we get to claim those.

Would this be like us claiming the 2013 SEC East title?

Mizzou had the best record in the country in 1960 and 2007
In 2007, Mizzou finished 12-2. That equaled LSU’s record, but LSU actually won their conference championship. Mizzou was #2 at best in 2007.

Y'all finished with a worse record in the division.
That’s okay, the final polls bore out who the better team was

Well, technically, the NCAA doesn’t recognize a national champion in FBS football either…..

You mean these "retroactive National titles":
quote:
Then there is that 1941 where you finished 3rd in the SEC but claim a NC.
And this is literally the best argument you have seeing as how the AP or UPIdid not award Bama a title that year. However, there was also Kentucky in 1950, who claimed an NC despite finishing 7th in the AP; and Illinois who finished 5th in 1951; USC who finished 3rd in 1939; Tennessee who finished 4th in 1940 and 2nd in 1938; Georgia who finished 2nd in 1942; Pitt who finished 3rd in 1936; etc. etc. etc.
Also, if not winning a conference title disqualifies you from winning a national title, then oh boy, go ahead and add 2011 Alabama to this list...
quote:
Oh, and don't forget 1964...
You mean the season we were awarded a title by the AP? You're saying AP titles are illegitimate? Because that's equivalent to saying the BCS titles were illegitimate...
quote:
and then there are '73 and '78 where the other "so-champion beat your asses ON THE FIELD.
And the titles were awarded prior to the bowl games being played.
if claiming titles that were awarded prior to bowl games is an issue for you, it appears we're going to have to strip Auburn of their 1957 title since they didn’t even play in a bowl game. It appears we'll have to strip OU of their 1950 title since they lost to UK in the Sugar Bowl. We'll also have to strip Michigan State of their 1965 title since they lost to UCLA in the Rose Bowl. It appears Tennessee will have to forfeit their 1951 title since they lost to Maryland in the Sugar Bowl. Texas will have to kiss their 1970 National title goodbye since they lost the Cotton Bowl to Notre Dame...
And if we're retroactively changing how National titles are awarded from that era based on "the better record" to help redneck losers like you cope, in 1937, Alabama finished 8-0-1 while national champion, Minnesota finished 7-1; in 1945, Alabama finished 10-0 (with a Rose Bowl win) while National Champion, Army, finished 9-0, skipping out on the bowl season; In 1966, Alabama finished 11-0, while National Champion(s) Notre Dame and Michigan State (co-champs) both finished 9-0-1; In 1974, Alabama finished 11-1, while National Champion USC finished 10-1-1...
Also in 1977, Alabama and Notre Dame finished the season 11-1 yet ND was awarded the NC. But Notre Dame's only loss came against Ole Miss, a team Alabama steamrolled that year.
