College football has a major issue on its hands. Lincoln Riley saw the writing on the wall. Go to USC, get paid, and have an easier shot a national title. He wanted no part of OU going to the SEC. It’s no secret anymore, the SEC is about to become a super confrence. So now what? On any given year you’ll have 6 programs or more in the SEC that have the resources and talent to potentially make a playoff. But there are still only 4 spots? How is it that fair? You’re telling me USC can roll through a trash Pac12 or Clemson blast through the ACC and gets an auto bid while UF has to play UGA, LSU, and then a combo of A&M, Bama, OU, and or Auburn. Don’t get me wrong I love the big games and it’s what makes the SEC great but how do you weigh the difference between a 2 loss SEC team and an undefeated Pac12 team given the disparity in competition. It has to be inevitable the playoff goes to 8 games now right? Will be interesting to watch unfold, that’s fersure.

Yes, the playoff will be expanded. This almost happened already. Just working out details to appease all of the administrators.

If it's an 8 team playoff, should be 3 SEC teams in it every year...at least.

Riley wants to follow the Dabo model at Clemson...dominate a 1 team conference annually. The model was pioneered by Florida St in the weak ACC of the 1990s.

Yep, he chickened out. But this is also a huge test case for elite recruits and the magic portal. The best recruits and soon players will jump off the sooner schooner like rats off the titanic. USC will immediately be a contender sooner than later off of name recognition alone and Oklahoma is in all scramble mode and left bailing water as they sail toward that SEC storm.

I believe he took USC because easier path to titles without having to go through the death gauntlet of the new SEC.

The Playoff will expand especially now that this year the Pac-12 is left out again and the ACC is as well. The "Alliance" is going to shift its tune as 2 of the 3 are on the outside looking in, especially when both might have gotten a team in with a 12 team playoff.

SEC should just add a total of 20 teams and reward it's own National Champion. A semi-pro league.

You can expand the play offs to include a mandatory 6 SEC spots but if Fla is 2nd to GA 5 years and made the play off all 5 years they will fire their coach for not winning the big one.

It’s just the SEC, no one wants to go to the office and the other SEC school fans saying haha you suck.

Spot on IMO. The transfer portal will be his ticket to dominating the PAC. He will get a bunch of Star QBs and WRs now.

Getting an easier shot to the playoffs does not equal an easier shot to the national title.

I wonder how much the NFL returning to LA (x 2) will impact USC's attempt to regain relevance.

Hell, even the Raiders moved closer to LA with their move to Vegas and the Raiders maintained a strong following in LA after their move back to Oakland.

It should be more. They might go with 8, but it needs to be 12-16.

This removes the grievances from other teams sitting on the outside with a loss while a few teams are in with 2.

For example, Ole Miss vs OU. Ole Miss would be in and OU would not. In fact there are 7 teams with the same record.

4 teams was always temporary.

I would hate it for Cincinnati, but we would expand to at least 8 teams very quickly if they got left out at 13-0 (assuming they win CCG) this year. They wont get left out looks like, but imagine them going 13-0 and being left out because the committee chose only UGA + 3 1 loss power teams instead.

Heck, imagine if Cinci lost the CCG, to finish 12-1, and 11-1 ND got chosen over them. That also could get us an expanded playoff pretty quick.

Sankey is the worst commish of the SEC ever. He is only looking at what ESPN offers in terms of short term money and has no care about the long term effects.

The SEC is cashing out.

You can't even name 4 teams that have a legitimate claim at the #1 spot, much less 12-16.

Hope I'm dead before fricks like you get their way.
