Do you just want to get to the playoffs or win it?

I agree. Teams are going to get smashed.

SEC should just add a total of 20 teams and reward it's own National Champion. A semi-pro league.

There will be a move to limit the number of teams from any one conference, and we know which conference, when the field expands to 8,12 or whatever number.

I believe he took USC because easier path to titles without having to go through the death gauntlet of the new SEC.

Even Les Miles knew this.

He had an easier shot at OU in the big 12 and got smoked 3 out of 4 years.

Getting an easier shot to the playoffs does not equal an easier shot to the national title

At Zero U he had the easiest shot to the playoffs of any conference, made it 3 of his 5 years as HC, and pretty much got smoked each time.

He may make it at SC but that soft West Coast style of play (akin to the Big XII) ain't gonna cut it on the national level.

I believe the SEC added OU and Texas primarily because of the upcoming playoff expansion and the game matchups attract more viewers/ratings when they are rated, or a blueblood, and SEC.

This is why an expansion is not only coming but I believe it will expand to 16 in the next couple of decades. 16 is a clean number and will enable the SEC to have 4 to 6 teams some years. The SEC appears like it will pay more than any other conference for the foreseeable future. The other conferences will have cross conference big games every year in an effort to catch up with the SEC.

The SEC made a deal with ESPN for weekday games decades ago which has proven to be a homerun deal. They have been trending up ever since.

SCal has a great film school and I envision SCal and UCLA suddenly having NIL deals with the film industry. They will have high profile recruits getting NIL deals. College Football will not look the same in 50 years.

None of those fanbases have the support that fans have in the SEC. California is more into the pros than college sports.

At least FSU played Miami and Florida every year and also scheduled OOC games like Notre Dame, USC, Texas A&M. They played very few throw-away games OOC in the 90s

I honestly don't even remember USC's support being great during that run with Palmer, Leinart, and Bush

Sankey is the worst commish of the SEC ever. He is only looking at what ESPN offers in terms of short term money and has no care about the long term effects.

The SEC is cashing out.

Kind of agree. Just seems like this cash bubble is bound to burst at some point and he's not looking at the big picture as far as the health of the sport is concerned. Our conference was already, by far, the strongest conference in America. There was no need to add two more power programs just for more money when the byproduct makes it that much harder for our conference members to be successful on the national stage compared to programs for other conferences. There should be some semblance of balance among the P5 conferences and not have half or more of the good teams all beating up on each other while the good programs in other conferences coast through their seasons. And Riley is doing what I'm sure a lot of other good head coaches are thinking....why come to the SEC when they can win and get paid elsewhere without going through the meat grinder every year

it is my understanding that they arent considering an 8 team format. they are only considering 6, 12, and 16

Fanbase support is only a portion of recruiting though. Some of these 5 star Cali kids want to stay close to home and having a very good coach at SC will keep them home. Ultimately I think the majority of these kids want the best chance to make it to the NFL while also checking off a few other boxes.

Not to mention, bandwagon support will increase with wins.

Some of this shite that has come out about Riley in the past 24 hours shows he was a total pussy and shows why OU underperformed so many times. He’s forever tainted
