it's simple, put Bama and auburn in the East, Mizzou and A&M in the West, and everybody keeps there rivalry. That is the MOST IMPORTANT THING, RIVALRYS!
If you aren't for that, you're a scared p*ssy.

Bama, AU, UGA, UT, UF all in one division so LSU doesnt have to play them all...whose scared?

Rivalries man. That's what the SEC is all about. Competitive balance does not matter. Why are you scared?

quote:This is a red herring. The 6-2 does not provide competitive balance. In fact, the 6-1-1 is much more competitively balanced. The 6-2 only provides more theoretical scheduling equality over a long period of time. Which is pointless in college football.
Competitive balance does not matter.

League presidents and athletic directors will vote today on the new SEC football scheduling format, and a 6-1-1 plan (six games against division foes, one permanent opponent from the other division and one rotating opponent from the other division) is expected to pass, according to SEC commissioner Mike Slive and the coaches and athletic directors contacted.
I really wish the league would take a little more time to think this out. If all the league presidents/ADs/etc are just a little bit creative then a 6-2-1 (2 rotating, 1 permanent) can be done. It would make the scheduling of OOC games and the ability to ensure no home games are lost a bit more challenging but I think it can be done. The key imho would be somehow making sure Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina have their OOC rivalry games at home the same year and on the road the same year so the rest of their schedules can work out where they won't ever drop below 7 home games in a year. You solve that issue and scheduling for the rest of the league can still be done in a way everyone can be happy with even with a 9 game SEC schedule.
P.S. To clarify my point about UF, UGA, and USCe, I'm talking about those 3 teams playing FSU, G Tech, and Clemson on their home field in years when they have a 4 home/5 away SEC schedule setup and vice versa in years they play those games at the ACC's home field. Of course now that I think of it Kentucky has to be considered as well with their annual games with Louisville and Indiana. It may just be easier to rotate the 4 home/5 away schedule between divisions. One year all SEC East teams have a 5 home game/4 away conference schedule while all SEC West teams have a 4 home/5 away schedule and vice versa the next year. Thoughts?

Saban has built and Les has placed LSU in a place where it shouldn't matter who is on the other sideline...on any Saturday. The club should conduct themselves as such, imo.
+1
Someone needs to gag Les.

The 6-1-1 provides much more competitive balance
For Auburn.
Has anybody totaled up Florida's record as compared with the other SEC East teams since division play began?
I'd also bet big money that Alabama has played Florida in the regular season less than any other SEC West team.

For Auburn.
With the 6-2, there will be years when LSU draws UF and UGA while Bama gets UK and Vanddy. Or UGA will get Ole MIss and MSU in a year when UF draws LSU and Bama. That is not balanced scheduling.
It only balances out over 12 years, which is meaningless.

Auburn has played Florida 15 times since expansion...
Alabama has played them 13....(ETA only 6 times in regular season)
ETA: Arkie has played them 8 times
Ole Miss 6
MSU 8 times..
Dang, I hate defending Bama, but these LSU fans are running scared.

Nice of you to start at 2000 instead of 1993 when Florida became LSU's permanent opponent.
Even starting with only 2000, it seems
Ike LSU is the only team that has to play TWO multiple BCS Championship winning programs every year. And by your numbers, Bama gets a cupcake as its permanent opponent.

2000 is when it went to the current system.
