It was all rumors obviously but like a day after the job came open, people from Alabama shut down the “Kiffin to Bama” noise.
I remember hearing it was because he fricked a big booster’s wife, daughter or both when he was the OC there

Lane Kiffin has been a distraction for virtually every team he's been at since he began his coaching career. He's the very definition of immaturity. He's still a good coach, and I will always hold him in high regard for what he did while he was our OC from 2014-16. That all being said, I'm kinda glad we didn't try to hire him away from Ole Miss in 2024.

That all worked out pretty well for Lane and LSU. Not so well for Bama and Ole Miss. Auburn TBD.

I remember it like it was yesterday. Nicolas called me and said Paul said Lane was wanting the Bama job and asking for his help. He ask me what I thought and I told him not no, but hell no.

Everyone with a functional brain already knew Saban and the current Alabama leadership blackballed Kiffin from ever becoming head coach at Alabama.
Kiffin burns bridges. It is who he is. The LSU melt when it happens will be historic.

By the end of the season, the LSU fanbase will have to reconcile with the very real possibility that Nick Saban lobbied for Kiffin to get the LSU job, not because he has some love or affection for the LSU program, as so many LSU fans are wont to believe. But instead he did it because he absolutely hates LSU.
To hear the LSU fanbase tell it. Nick Saban played an important role in afflicting them with Kiffin.

Kiffin may be a liability but he’s an infinitely better coach than DeBoer. The boosters at Alabama will look back on this in several years and wish that they could’ve had that same opportunity again.
