OM sure fell for it like the Chicken Littles they are. Do you realize the narrative you’ve now handed Lane?
This lawsuit isn’t really about getting money back. It’s about a contract that was signed, and then 10 days later two players decided they didn’t want to play for your school anymore. Now Ole Miss is asking for a combined $1 million from those players for nothing but signing their names, even though they aren't employees!
Do you see the problem with that? Do you realize the precedent and the can of whoop-arse you’ve potentially opened on yourselves by Lane?

I could give two shits if we pay it, I just love how fricking stupid this makes Ole Miss look and how badly Lane will use this against them. Anyone out there who thinks otherwise it’s just heads in the sand.

It’s about a liquidated damages clause, not how much money they were paid when they signed
When good lawyers draft a contract…they include liquidated damages clauses for breach of said contract.

Yep, I bet college coaches are going into 18, 19 and 20 year-old living rooms talking about liquidated damages. That’s what it’ll get their attention. No, it’s the fact that Ole Miss is suing players for $1 million because they decided to go elsewhere. Try getting rid of that narrative, you can talk contracts, liquidated, damages, etc. all you want. But they just handed Lane a gold mine.

There still has to be consideration paid for the contract to be enforceable. Were they paid anything?

The actual recruiting line for portal players is “LSU is gonna leave you high and dry on that buyout while *every other school in the country* will pay it” lmao
I’d imagine those players aren’t too happy being served a complaint asking for their salary because their school is acting poor

Nah, there is more play here than that. You really think LSU can’t pay $1 million? They’re letting OM fall on their sword here. Lots of schools are paying buyouts after players received money. And believe me, LSU has had to do that too.These kids did not.

Okay, no. Again, it’s a liquidated damages clause. Basically they are included so the parties don’t have to litigate the damages.
Ole Miss only has to prove the contract was valid and the damages are reasonably related to the damages ole Miss would have expected to incur at the time the contract was formed.

Oh, I’m sure those “damages” caused are going to be far more costly to OM than the two college football players who probably come from families that don’t have a lot of money, and have their futures to play for….and they’re trying to get $1 million out of them. Awww…poor Ole Miss in this situation.

Understood, but it’s a really dumb move on their part. That is the whole point. Obviously they wouldn’t go through all this rigmarole if they didn’t feel like they had the rights to do so. Have at it OM! Bold move there

This isn’t about Brian Kelly. And yes, we’re paying him his buyout. just in case you’re wondering. The question here is how is Ole Miss gonna save face for suing players for $1 million because they didn’t wanna go play there and that’s it? Yes there is the court of law, but you seem to be forgetting about the court of public opinion.

If the contract was valid I don't blame Ole Miss for trying to enforce it. This NIL/transfer at will mess needs to be brought under control.
