Cool,

How bout the 2026 version coached by an $87 million coach?

Is this a, "we were great, once" thread?

It beats a "never was" thread.

Likely the last time any college team has a similar run of dominance. Seems highly unlikely in today's environment.

Go ahead and list off them 'Never Was's for me. I might agree with you.

So when he had immensely more talent than everyone he could win. That’s ultimately what Kirby and bama fans are saying.

ok yeah sure, but they didn't have some kind of unfair advantage in stacking talent, so not really sure that's much of a dig.

Because the greatest cfb coach off all time isn't the coach anymore,

and there is a thing called a transfer portal, making players much less likely to sit in the depths of a roster to wait their turn,

and it is legal to pay players now, thus allowing schools with the most money to easily poach good players off of other rosters.

well...yeah. LSU will never field another team as good as ones they've put on the field prior ot NIL/portal either. It's not just bama/uga it's pretty much any of the big boy schools.

But development goes hand in hand with talent as far as success and saban and kirby are two of the best to ever do it in that regard. Kirby (and saban) made their living by first recruiting like hell and getting talent on campus, but then coaching and developing the shite out of them so that they were hell on wheels as upperclassmen. Now that isn't possible because the 5* elite studs that aren't in line to start by the start of their sophomore year will bolt for another team that will pay them more and promise them a start, and the 3* guys that would get coached up in the before-times feel like they won't ever start so they bolt for somewhere else too.

No, I was more joshing about backing into the 2011 and 2017 games.

So, I'm assuming that he would say that 2011 LSU, 2012 Texas A&M, 2013 Auburn, and 2014 & 2015 Ole Miss would beat the dog out of today's teams as well.

Good to know.

It’s almost like the main teams who were paying massive money to create a competitive roster depth had the best teams of all time. So strange…nah im sure it was just the winning culture. Not the cash and cars

If you were winning, you were spending. Same as it is right now. It’s just a lot more now and bama ain’t got them funds.

Bama’s football and basketball coaches salaries combined are the highest in the NCAA.
