Given your limitations, let’s keep this one simple. How about…winning % …against ranked teams?

I hope LSU fans are keeping receipts from the gumps in this thread. Are they really this dumb or just faking their confidence in Karen?

Since joining the SEC, Sarks is #2.

Better collection of big victories: Michigan x2, OU x2, A&M x2, Vandy x2, 2 playoff wins (Clemson, AZSt).

Here’s the list (must have coached a regular season SEC game):
1. Kirby
2. Sark
3. Lane
4. DeBoer
5. Venables
6. Elko
7. Lea
8. Heupel
9. Drink
10. Beamer
11. Lebby

I'd much rather Kiffin over DeBoer, but that's just me.

Some Bama fans might agree. I think he’ll be somewhat successful at LSU, but based off past resumes, he’s not 2nd. I’d put Deboer, and Sark above him. One is clearly Kirby. So probably 4th is a fair place for him right now, but that could change quickly. He has a lot of great qualities, but he just needs to mature a little. If he does that, watch out. My assessment of him, great offensive mind. Maybe the best in college football. Great talent evaluator. Players seem to like him. Shows confidence in his teams.
Those are the positives.
The negatives are, takes dumb risks, overly confident maybe too cocky, he’s shown to be selfish. Possibility of him leaving his team in the dust at any point for better opportunities. Doesn’t handle failure or criticism very well. This is a big problem because he’s going to a place where the fans bitch and moan more than any fan base of any sport in the country. The first sign of struggle and LSU fans will let him have it. How will he respond, or will he be able to ignore it? This one kind of ties in with the last one, but he spends too much time on social media. It shows a lack of maturity.
Just my thoughts

I think DeBoer definitely has a better resume for sure, I just like Kiffin's approach, especially in the NIL era.

Good points but are probably true of pretty much any coach.

Can you name a coach who has not had in game decision making issues?

I mean I get it. Some of the decisions have been mystifying to me, too. But which coach do you think is better? Which has accomplished more?

Sure, he is the best active coach in the SEC… Whatever that means for the conference.

Nam another coach in the country that has accomplished more.

It's pretty crazy that Kirby is the only current coach with an SEC title.

DeBoer has a Power conference title. I'd have to put him second.

Sark has won two playoff games.

Lane would clearly be behind them.

Kirby doesn’t understand how to use the portal

He also doesn’t understand how to lose 25-35 players to the portal every year.

Sounds like we are back to 2020: ‘Kirby can’t win the big one!’ Perfect place to be.

Jerry Kill is a far better football coach than LK - Kill won 10 games at Vanderbilt with a 5'8" QB -

Lame lost to Kentucky while at Ole Miss

I would rather have Kiffin over Deboer as well. At present time, before Golesh and Sumrall show what they can do, I would have Kiffen tied for 3rd in the conference behind Kirby and Sark, but tied with Elko. Once Golesh and Sumrall reach year 3 at AU and UF, I would expect Kiffin to be below them. Kiff doesn't have the courage and guts to win a championship. Hell, he may not even make to Atlanta. But, for right now, he is top 4 in the conference.

Nobody has said Kirby can’t win the big one. What we are saying is that Kirby has won when he had loads of talent above his competition. I have always given him huge props for bringing the Saban bagman system and doing what Richt could never do.

But, Kirby has never done what a lot of coaches have done which is win games against better talent. Can anyone tell me a game Kirby has out coached a team with better talent? But I can name many games he lost against inferior teams.

This isn’t disrespect towards him. It’s just to point out that UGA no longer has the huge talent disparity which makes the window much smaller to win. UGA now has to be really good in all 3 phases of the game and coaching. Those back to back teams were loaded with NFL players. Looking at the mock drafts shows UGA isn’t expected to have a player drafted until the late 1st round. The portal and NIL has made UGA just another team with a chance.

as a tech person you will never be satisfied with an answer becuase any answer that is given you'll just respond "well uga had more talent".

Bama and Texas this past season were very aguably "more talented" than us and we whipped both. I guess by your logic 2011 - 2020 alabama didn't outcoach a single team since they had more talent than all of them.

this is objective fact. We can't stockpile bluechippers on the bench like we could pre-portal so depth is far more precious. That's a fact. And yet we're still back to back SEC champions. So we're obviously doing something right.

quote:

The portal and NIL has made UGA just another team with a chance.

If you want to call 2023 as the real beginning of the NIL/portal mess, youd' be hard pressed to find more than about 2 or 3 teams that have accomplished the total top to bottom results we have in that time span.

Think a coach would have to make a playoff to be considered best coach in sec . His team made the playoff he did not .
