He is in the thoughts and prayers of all of Big Blue Nation Gators. Here's to a speedy recovery

Have they said why he’s in the induced coma? Does he have brain swelling and they are giving time for reduction?

There has been literally nothing said about the initial cause of his collapse or any additional injuries. Part of what is so scary is that we know nothing.
Most of what has been speculated about actions after going to the hospital suggest a cardiac event that led to oxygen deprivation in his brain BUT there were no chest compressions done on the court which anyone with any medical training would know should be absolutely immediate if he didn't have a pulse.
It was reported but not confirmed that he briefly regained consciousness at the arena and could communicate before passing out again.
I initially assumed it was cariac but like many others I'm starting to wonder if it really was just dehydration and he suffered a TBI in the fall to the court.

A TBI from that fall? Didn’t seem hard enough for that

Therapeutic hypothermia. I could explain but its easier to Google it.
I'd say with 100% confidence that this was cardiovascular....question is whether it was cardiac or vascular

What's the typical prognosis of this? I know it will vary, but do people fully recover?
I've been completely torn up since this happened. I feel so terrible for this young man and his family. Doesn't help that I also just went through a family death as well.
Sports is just an afterthought right now.

Thanks, that should help.

"testing" a kid for heart problems basically involves an EKG, listening to the heart sounds, and sometimes an echo. That will not however rule out one of the rare but potential fatal cardiac issues found in young adults. There is a condition where the vessels coming from the root of the aorta have an anomaly. One of the major branches runs an abnormal route. This can cause a vascular spasm resulting in cardiac arrythmia. From the video it does not look like a cardiac event. From his look on the stretcher I was leaning more toward some type of seizure r brain insult, possibly a stroke, but that is purely speculation. I pray he recovers and can get back to doing what he loves. Life is precious and we are fragile vessels for it.

Not liking the “he may have had activity in the brain” part.
Hopefully they meant overactivity, and the coma was just precautionary. Praying hard for the kid.

That was my first thought as well.
I'm continuing to pray for this young man and his family and hope he recovers fully, irrespective of basketball.

They are simply making sure they don’t have myocarditis. Which is why the media trying to link this to covid and praying it is and he dies is sick
