What does this say about Thad

Hope he does well at Ole Miss. We can bring him home when Howland decides to hang it up.

He is only 2 years younger than Howland

Leave it to Ross Bjork and Jeffrey Vitter to make the most boring, uninspired hire possible. I think their goal is to have as little fans in the arena and football stadium as possible so they can have better seats to give to their friends.

Not bad honestly, when Fox was first fired Kermit was a name to watch on our hot boards. Not necessarily a grand slam but I mean you could absolutely do worse.

Bjork and Vitter must be extremely impatient to just shoo everyone away and take the most boring uninspired hire possible. I mean there had to be a line of suitors for this job right? Top 14 job in the SEC!

Pretty meh hire. I’d be pissed if I rooted for the Mississippi racists. That said, he’s likely a better coach than billy Kennedy. Fml.

Kermit is a solid hire. I guess his parents are still in Tupelo. Not sure.

Kind of an odd direction to go since his style is a lot like Andy Kennedys
Same old Same old boring arse hire. I don't understand why they built the new arena if they are just going to hamstring the program with a coach who has little upside. I was hoping for a young up and comer from a smaller school.

I don't really know what to think about this one. Like thunderbird pointed out, he was on the verge of being asked to leave MTSU after 2009, and then they all of a sudden took off.
2002-2011
153-126 (55%)
84-60 (58%) Sun Belt
0 Conference Titles
0 Conference Tournament Titles
0 NCAA Tournaments
0 NITs
2012-2018
179-61 (75%)
101-23 (81%) Sun Belt/CUSA
5 Conference Titles
2 Conference Tournament Titles
3 NCAA Tournaments
2 NITs
That is one insane split, and it isn't like the first period was just 3-4 years. It was almost a decade. This feels kind of like one of the old, late 2000s SEC hires (Anthony Grant, John Pelphrey, Jeff Lebo, Darrin Horn, etc). We'll see how it goes.

He definitely goes after A LOT of transfers, might be the difference between early on and recently.

That's a pretty scary model for the SEC vs Conference USA.

I agree, the model works a lot better for mid majors than major conference teams. Florida has really struck gold there, but a lot of transfers into major conference programs dont work out so well.
LSU took Jeremy Combs and Randy Onwuasor as grad transfers this cycle, both former all conference players from mid majors, and Onwuasor just couldn't compete and Combs quit a little into the season because he wasn't quite 100% from a lingering injury.
Interesting to note Onwuasor started at Texas tech, was mediocre, went to Southern UTah, tore things up, then came to LSU as a grad transfer and struggled to get playing time at times on what was a previous 2-16 SEC team.
Hope Bigby-Williams turns out better for us, at least he's had a year to practice with the team. Florida on the other hand just continues to strike absolute gold with their transfers...Koulechov, Hudson, Egbunu, Barry...Mike White better hope he can keep that streak up (I guess Egbunu wasnt his transfer though)

At this point, 55% was the #3 Win% for MTSU coaches and 153W was only 12W away from becoming all time win leader at MTSU
