I can get better bbq at a gas station in KC than at a high rated bbq restaurant in most other cities. It’s pretty much all KC has going for it.

Briskets good but not number 1.

Mustard? Easily last place.

tied for 4th. Both indistinguishable but solid.

Solid #3 with those dry rub ribs.

For #1, gotta go with Eastern North Carolina or Lexington’s BBQ. Whichever doesn’t win is the #2 choice.

Since I live in Texas, I admit that Texas has some good bbq.

Overrated in Texas -

Franklin's
Killen's

Best BBQ in the state is Snow's BBQ.

Really like Krews Market too.

Anyone that uses sauce on bbq is a rank amateur. Why spend so much time smoking and prepping a piece of meat to only cover it in sauce ?

It's like dusting crawfish after a boil ! Amateurs....

Arkansas has quite a bit of good barbecue places between Little Rock and Memphis.

Lmao all the posts by mine are talking about sauce. That’s how you know your shite sucks

Sauce and rub are the only two distinguishing features. If you cant smoke your meat correctly then you aren’t in a BBQ power ranking conversation anyways.

I'll be in South Mississippi and Alabama later this year, so I'm asking for the hookup.

Where in Alabama? South Alabama? Usually when I get down that way I'm taking advantage of the gulf seafood, so I'm not very familiar with the BBQ spots down there.

If you're going to be in the Birmingham area or just around North Alabama then I can help you out. Auburn/ Opelika area too

Not going to get into an argument over who's is better. I will say it's appreciated that other SEC states care about BBQ. Love that there's lots of different styles.

I can tell your opinion is based on real experience of good BBQ, but I disagree about Franklins. Try the beef ribs at Black's. First rate. And the place out of Brenham that's in Houston now - Truth. Good stuff.

Mississippi would be above Alabama simply because of Memphis, and its 80 years of influence in MS bbq joints from the north delta all the way down to I-20.

Killens is not overrated. Great BBQ. Never eaten Franklin's so no comment.

And I assume you meant Kreuz Market in Lockhart? Very good joint.

Overall, TX is way ahead of everything north of the Red and east of the Sabine.

1. Missouri
2. Texas
3. Mississippi/Alabama tie
4. South Carolina

This is my list of BBQ that I’ve eaten!

Number 1 of course is my home bbq!

So y'all couldn't come up with your own style, stole it from another state, and you think that's a bragging point?

If you're basing this on East Tennessee then this is sadly accurate.

Whole state of Tennessee though? Man, FOHWTS.

Here's your ranking:

1. I'll give it to you Texans, brisket is damn amazing
2. TENNESSEE- we don't need no sugary wet sauce, we got real spices in our dry rub and those ribs are already juicy
3. Alabama- white sauce is actually pretty cool
4. Missouri- decent
5. Anything in the Carolinas. Mustard and chopped up pork don't mix imo
6. Mississippi. No reason to put MS here, but MS is always last

Just about the only thing that makes Mizzou fit into the SEC culturally is their BBQ.
