Mississippi should be above Alabama and Tenn.
Mississippi’s BBQ is derivative from Tenn, but it’s also just better.
South Cal probably shouldnt be 3 either.
I’d go
1.) Mizz
2.) Miss
3.) Tex
4.) The memphis derivs
X) South Car
Y) The rest
Last) Florida

Tennessee and south carolina should be much lower maybe off the list based on the prevalence of barbecue that is sauced with vinegar based sauces
I'm guessing that Mizzou is that high based on the popularity of Kansas City style or St Louis Style BBQ
My guess is
Texas
Mizzou
Louisiana
Arkansas
Mississippi
Georgia

Those are 3 broad styles.
Mississippi BBQ = Memphis BBQ.
The really good Miss BBQ beats the really good Tenn stuff. That’s all there is to it.
Missouri = KC/St Louis
Gonna have to give them the edge as it’s more consistently good. There are some bad memphis sauces and memphis bbq joints.
Texas is only 3 because brisket is great. Their sauces and sides are subpar.

NC is actually pretty good but it’s more polarizing, so I usually don’t include it in power rankings.

Your best BBQ joints are chains. They are good chains that MS admittedly doesn’t have, but the real joints in MS are far better than you’ll find in Bama.

Just bc you've only been to chains doesn't make that even remotely true.

The frick it does.
Yall slobber everything in sauce and sweet sauce at that.

Not true for the good places.
Good Miss BBQ adds some heat to the traditional Memphis sweet.

I'll be in South Mississippi and Alabama later this year, so I'm asking for the hookup. What are the best non chain bbq spots in both states?

2-6 could be in any order really
