Kelly is a .700 coach. There is a huge body of work to see that. He will continue that. A tiger doesn’t just change his stripes. Kelly has a very high floor, he probably will never go worse than 7-5. But he also has a low ceiling, he probably will never go better than 10-2. Most years he will chug along at 9-3 or 8-4, right at his average.

We have NO Defense….that’s the issue, plain & simple

Eventually Vince Dooley got his Hershel Walker.

It is certainly possible Kelly could catch lightning in a bottle and get a Cam Newton/Joe Borrow/Vince Young/Jameis Winston type quarterback who carries a team on his shoulders to a national championship. But I predict, just like all the examples above, it would be a one year anomaly and then be back to business as usual.

13-12-1 is the record you managed in between Bryant and Saban.
yea but the NCAA helped you and others (Auburn won 6 straight) get about 6 additional wins keeping us on sanctions that today would amount to 4 scholarships, instead they took a total of 46 scholarships between 95 and 2002. You weren't beating "normal" Alabama teams. Back Then there was no transfer portal to rebuild a team in one year either. You're obliged to the NCAA for helping you out....and even with all that Bama still won more than they lost. Without the NCAA LSU has no chance to win more than 1 out of probably every 3 or 4.

Kirby didn’t inherit such a fantastic situation either

I think Kelly is a solid 9 win per season coach so about the same as last year and this year.

Kelly will settle in and lose around 4 games per year.
He will consistently go 9-3 to 10-2 like Les Miles.
He may occasionally go 11-1 and win the SEC and make playoffs. I’ll be shocked if he wins a Natty. Reason is because he is 62 years old, his peak years as a coach were at Notre Dame. He isn’t far from the age coaches start to slide

Remains to be seen. There's a reason Notre Dame hasn't been relevant since the '80s. They have refused to change with the times and invest in their program like many others have. Kelly was the only coach who gave them a chance to win a natty since then, and he got his arse kicked because Saban had much more talent than him. He's in a situation now where he can recruit the talent it takes to win. Whether he puts all the pieces together remains to be seen. First step is overhauling the defensive staff after this season. His hires will be key. Saban, Miles and Orgeron didn't have stellar records before they came to LSU.

He very well do it. He may end up being great. But if he is going to be, next year is vital. I can not think of one “elite” coach at any program over the last 20 years that had sustained national success, always in the hunt type programs that didn’t play in a New Years Day/BCS/Playoff game by year three. If LSU doesn’t next year, there has to be real concern.

LSU historically seems to fall in that #4-6 area for "good classes," they will never recruit near the top year in and out.
Not even that high.
LSU averages about an 8th ranked class.

I mean it's Kelly's second year. If we have a couple more years of the same, we can have this conversation.
I do agree with this.

Kirby got his arse beat a few times before he started winning championships.
In fairness he did it as a brand new head coach, not a coach who had coached for 20 years. And the vast majority of his losses came in his first year as a head coach.

In CBK last 7 years in south bend he lost 4+ games only once.
2010 5 losses 1 win over a ranked team
2011 5 Losses 1 win over a ranked team
2012 (all wins vacated"1 loss 4 ranked wins. Bama skull fricked them in the bowl. Note 6 games that year was decided by 1 score or less.
2013 "all wins vacated" 4 losses 1 win over a ranked team
2014 5 losses 1 win over a ranked team.
2015 3 losses 2 win over a ranked team
2016 8 losses 0 Wins over a ranked team
2017 3 losses 3 wins over a ranked team
2018 1 loss 4 wins over a ranked team, blown out against Clemson in bowl
2019 2 losses 1 win over a ranked team, Navy.
2020 2 losses 2 wins over a ranked team, bama and clemson smoked them
2021 2 losses 1 win over a ranked team.
BK avg over 3.5 losses a year with playing Purdue, GA Tech, Navy and Purdue every year.
Less than 2 wins a year against ranked teams, keep in mind He had 3 really good years skewing those numbers.
They will have at least 4 ranked games next year, 9-3 is pretty much the best case scenario with BK.

4 and 5 years ago? Really?

They'll be fine as soon as they fix the D. I feel their pain, Golding was so bad, so bad. A good LSU is good for the SEC, and college football.

Everyone has a brutal schedule next year. Adding OU and Texas does that.
UGA plays at Bama, at Texas, at Ole Miss, at UK, Tennessee at home, and UF and Clemson at neutral sites. I can't think of any SEC team that thinks they have an easy draw.
