The NCAA won't even award events in the state. You look at the success South Carolina had once they got rid of it and the NCAA bent over backwards for them. And that's something that will immediately impact MS.
The Winner is right. Personally, I have no problem with the flag and I've never advocated against it, but over the last few years, I've changed my tune some. While I don't think the flag has hurt Mississippi in recruiting large scale industry to come here (although our current governor hasn't been very aggressive at it), it definitely hurts the state in attracting large scale events.
Anything that isolates Mississippi should not stand, even though I don't necessarily agree with the reasoning most people give that want the flag replaced. It was all started by white liberal media constituents wanting to stir the pot. Black people hadn't considered the flag in years for the most part. That's what really stinks about the whole thing.

quote:I don't normally get into NoNotMe numbnut threads but what you are saying is a bunch of nonsense. An OM alum and Chair of the Search Committee for IHL is very Ole Miss. He was involved in the ouster of Dan Jones (or at least didn't oppose it). A friend of mine and an alum of OM was hired by OM to interview major players in the OM Alumni Association (read donors) to find out what OM alumni want in the next Chancellor. A short list will be presented to the entire IHL Board and a selection will more than likely come from that short list. They say they are independent but there are lots of influences that control who the next Chancellor will be. I would expect them to go with a "middle of the roader" type guy; not ultra conservative and not ultra liberal either. I think too much in the way of a progressive culture has grown at OM to ever go back to an ultra conservative environment. JMO
The Chancellor is chosen by an independent committee and not by anyone affiliated directly with the university. Same as MSU and other public universities. Nice try though.

That is incorrect. Ole Miss people did not want the last chancellor at all. Phil Bryant who appoints IHL members hates Ole Miss and will make sure they get another weak chancellor. Miss St did get who they wanted in Keenum but Ole Miss will not be that fortunate. The last chancellor did enough damage to hurt the school for years.

OlMiss good ol' boys can't keep their noses out of football recruiting, but we're supposed to believe that they're going to sit back and just accept a chancellor from an unaffiliated panel?
Is Santa Claus going to deliver this new chancellor?

The last time a chancellor was chosen, the majority of the IHL were State alums. Lot of nonsense in this topic but par for the course.

Oh frick off, I’m conservative as the next guy on this board but the damn flag needs to change.
It’s racist, whether you think it is or not, regardless of the history of the flag or wherever. Today it is a racist symbol and does nothing but make the state look worse.
And before you use the “history” argument. You put history in a museum, not glorify it on a state flag.

War by nature can not be civil

Surely someone can think of a good way to honor history without using the symbol that the KKK adopted.

Dang Quick, I never pictured you as one of the OM conspiracy types. Did you rail against Larry Templeton screwing OM in the baseball regionals every year?
Imagine believing that Larry Templeton was an SEC power broker who pulled strings behind the curtains

As A native Mississippian I humbly disagree with you. Our state flag is in no way shape or form racist.
I'm a native Mississippian as well and would be 100% completely fine with changing the state flag.

Also PARTS of our state flag resemble the confederate flag. The top left corner.
It's a mini confederate flag. Why champion an image that never had any positive connotation? It's time.

Surely you believe Mississippi State should remove the Bust of General Stephen D. Lee, a Confederate General from the Drill Field and his name off Lee Hall. And MSU should remove all vestiges of Civil War names and buildings from our beloved campus. Surely you want this.

That's all that really needs to be said about the subject

I pulled it from ReservoirDawg who I pretty much always disagree with

As much shite as MS gets over the flag, Georgia, in a move to distance itself from the battle flag of the confederacy adopted the national flag of the confederacy instead. People are generally too ignorant to notice.

The college board is appointed by the governor.

Rumors that there's a fierce battle behind the scenes about who the next Chancellor should be.
The Chancellor is selected by the IHL, a board appointed by the governor that also does the same for Mississippi State and every other public university in Mississippi.

Obviously I think both are bad but only one the battle jack has racist implications in the 21st century.

Did we somehow get a new conservative Governor? The last time I saw, he was one of those "R" liberals.
