But you could make an argument for Les over the others, just based on the opponents he faced in what many consider to be the greatest era in SEC football history.

Dude no you cant. This is insane

Urban and Kirby 2 titles > Les Miles 1

Spurrier, Dye, and Dooley all have more SEC titles

Fulmer and Miles would be a tie, but Fulmer has double the division titles.

Miles might not even be the greatest LSU coach of all time.

Les Miles also had like 50 wins vacated, so put that in your list dude. Not even LSU fans semi agree with you

Miles also never even went undefeated lol

I think he is, maybe even a top 3.

Well, let's see. Top 3 all time? Which of the following does he beat out?

Bear Bryant
Nick Saban
Kirby Smart
Urban Meyer
Steve Spurrier

And those are just off the top of my head. They all won at least two National titles. (Spurrier "only" had 1, but is second in wins all time in the SEC)

Undefeated Home record vs OOC teams is a feat that not even Saban accomplished.

You keep repeating this like it should be the only criteria considered.

Is it impressive? Yes, ok. But crap that is one of the most random stats you could bring up.

There are two periods of Les Miles tenure at LSU; with Saban recruiting classes and without Saban recruiting classes.

Following Saban, in his first three seasons he went 11-2, 11-2, and 12-2. He won 2 western division titles, one SEC title and one national championship.

In the 9 seasons that followed, he went 9-3 or worse in the regular season 6 times. He won one lone SEC title. In his last five regular seasons he went 9-3, 9-3, 8-4, 9-3, 8-4.

With all the vacated wins and sexual deviancy he isn’t even in the top three LSU coaches.

Coaches better than Miles.

Nick Saban
Bear Bryant
Robert Neyland
John Vaught
Steve Spurrier
Urban Meyer
Wallace Wade
Frank Thomas
Paul Dietzl
Phil Fulmer
Vince Dooley
Kirby Smart
Pat Dye
Johnny Majors
Bobby Dodd
Shug Jordan
Gene Stallings

You could argue Miles is in the top 20, barely.

So does he belong in the top 5?

Les Miles is a much better coach than many give him credit for. But he is not in the Top 5.

Nick Saban
Paul Bryant
Steve Spurrier
Urban Meyer
Robert Neyland
Vince Dooley
Kirby Smart

All of the above are more accomplished than Miles. I would consider him to be more on the level of coaches such as Pat Dye, Phillip Fulmer, Johnny Vaught, Gene Stallings, Paul Dietzel. Which is still pretty solid company.

Les was, however, very entertaining. Spurrier is the only one who can rival him in entertainment value.
