He has made tremendous improvements since his first year.

If he keeps this up, other assholes will try to pry him away.

Yep Wommack is legit. His defense plays hard and are ball hawks.

Yes and yes. Hell name him assistant head coach I don’t care what we have to do. He’s worth every penny.

Agreed. Also, can Womack call plays on offense?

Hold onto this DC as long as humanly possible. He’s a good one.

Said this in the game thread…. Kane Womack is my spirit animal.
He’s done nothing but improve.

It looks like he’s finally got his defense. His players. I’ve been a critic of his and I’m not quite ready to say give him an extension, but I’m liking what I’m seeing. Opponents are 1/23 on 3rd downs. Thats got to be tops in the country

His 1st year included the fewest points allowed by a Bama defense since JP was DC in 2017.

CKW isnt exactly a secret

I think he’s the best coach on this staff, and I probably would have said the opposite in year 1. He’s been pretty awesome since the last part of 2024

He earned it after year 1, imo. The guy is finally getting better talent to work with that also fits the scheme he transitioned to.
Guys like Jireh Edwards, Xavier Griffin, Justin Hill, Nolan Wilson, Ivan Taylor, Jamarion Matthews, Jordan Edmonds, Dijon Lee, etc etc were not on the roster he inherited, yet he still surrendered the fewest points since 2017 in year 1, then the fewest yards since 2017 this past season. Now he actually have the 300+lb bodies to play an Odd Front and the depth to slide to an Even Front as well. No more Renaud, Smith, Collins, Keeley, etc types at 275lbs on the Dline. Now they have gone from very good to great.

The funny thing is when CKD was hired the biggest question marks were:

1.) Can he recruit?
2.) Can he play defense.

Well both of these are done very well (for the most part)

His offense is the liability now.

Wommack had scheme issues to fix against elite teams week in and week out when he first got here. And you know what? He went and found smart people and got information and made tweaks. Then in this past offseason he went to the GOAT and asked for his advice on adding new wrinkles, and he implemented them.

I was very down on him after year 1. I'm thrilled with everything about the way he coaches and evolves at this point. Wish our OC would learn from him in that regard.

Extensions never keep a coach in his job...they basically just put the school on the hook for more buyout money and nothing more...unless the extension included a huge buyout clause. And considering ADs let agents bend them over with regularity, the contracts rarely give the schools leverage.

Wommack will likely parlay a very good defense this year into another HC gig...at a power 4 school.

He could have done that last year. Best case — Kane is the new Kirby except he’s holding out for the Bama job and not the UGA job.
