His dad was a career DC so it isn’t farfetched he may just be the same type of guy
I don’t think the next hire is internal. Sark would’ve been an exception because it was Saban and he had already been a peak coaching candidate pre crash out.

Their evals have been fantastic across the board. Transfers, high school kids, 5*s, 3*s, no*s. They've found guys who can play from everywhere.

Everyone thought we were getting a high-flying offense with a lot of diamond in the rough type over-achievers that could win by out-scoring teams and doing just enough defensively to hang on.
In reality, we got an extremely good defense with an inconsistent offense along with bringing in very talented players.
Guess you just never know.
Again, Alabama is 20-0 under CKD when the offense has scored 21+ points….no reason not to get to 21+ every week (especially when the defense forces so many turnovers).

Yep, CM and the staff has a whole has hit on just about everyone that they have brought into the program. Very little turnover from the guys the staff brought in themselves and you also see those guys developing into very solid players.

What's the point in giving coordinators extensions? They are just going to leave if the right school comes calling with a head coaching job. So, just make it a year to year contract with a built in renewal clause with increased compensation.

Year 1, he allowed just 17.8ppg, which was the best mark since the Jeremy Pruitt led 2017 National Championship defense.
I think fans tend to forget that the Georgia (2nd half) and Vandy games were the very 1st SEC games of CKW’s career and he instantly overhauled just about everything he (and his father) had spent their entire careers doing (4-2-5 Over with lots of Man coverage)
He literally went to a 3-4 Under and started “spot dropping” as a form of Zone coverage almost exclusively, and it led to the fewest points allowed of any P-4 defense over the final 8 weeks (plus postseason), which put them top10 nationally in Scoring Defense even after the terrible start. Along with forcing the 3rd most turnovers for the season nationally as well.
They were one Milroe debacle away vs UTjr or OU from dragging that offense to the Playoffs.
Now he has the bodies/mass and versatility to play an Odd-Front along the Dline, in addition to quality depth.
They are very fun to watch, and have been for awhile now.

Why? Give him a pay raise and make him the highest paid DC in the league, but if a good school comes calling for a HC he gone.

To keep him from taking a HC job at a place like Wake Forrest, Houston, Syracuse, etc. Obviously an extension will never prevent him from taking a job at a big SEC/B1G school.

We then rebounded against a hapless, QBless Missouri team and played a great game against LSU............but then finished the regular season lettering Oklahoma dominate the clock by running for 5.1 YPA and a terrible Auburn offense put up 400 yards of offense in Bryant Denny.
There were legitimate concerns about our run defense after year 1. We gave up 3.8 YPA to P5 teams on the ground and over 40% in 3rd/4th down conversions (mainly because of what favorable 2nd and 3rd downs teams were in because of the first number).
He made tweaks to his system, was able to bring in more of his type of player (along with this years adjustment up front) and other things to sure up areas that were leaking oil while still keeping (and even strengthening) the core of his system.
