Arkansas won a National Championship AFTER joining the SEC. 2 Final Fours AFTER joining SEC. How many Final Fours and National Titles does Auburn have again?

This thread is about Arkansas and the question was posed, so I answered it. And Arkansas did those things immediately after joining the SEC, yes, but hasn’t done hardly jack shite since. Hell, Auburn who has a horrendous history, has made it farther in the tournament than Arkansas since then. Arkansas isn’t what they used to be in the SWC. I’m sorry if that hurts your feelings

I consider Arkansas the second best program in the SEC, for whatever it's worth.

Don't compare our programs. We aren't in the same universe of relevancy since joining the SEC.

I suppose you’re right, we are better in the SEC as far as accomplishments in the dance. We also won the conference title for what that’s worth.

But I liked the SWC back then, when we stepped up our game they all had to and did. I remember going to the SWC tourney and it was Barnhill South, Barnhill arena was our campus arena, and it was wild. Plenty of Hog fans down there.

Houston, Texas, SMU, and others had salty teams. Basketball was really good for a while.

But anyway, we gave Kentucky a run for their money when we arrived…..

The poster I was replying to compared our programs, not me. And it really is a high bar comparing yourself to one of the worst basketball programs historically in the SEC. Still, we have been to a Final Four and won multiple SEC titles recently, feats that Arkansas hasn’t been able to accomplish since the mid 90s. So don’t act like Arkansas is some type of standard of success in the SEC. None of your current players were even born yet the last time Arkansas won a title in basketball. Maybe you should break out the long arse shorts for the SECT this year, in remembrance of when Arkansas was actually relevant.

My standard of success is making the dance and winning it. All other titles are irrelevant to me.

Winning the SEC was Kentucky’s job, no offense to Kentucky. They own the league.

I’m glad for the parity in the conference and look forward to a very competitive league.

Oklahoma has 5 Final Fours, 2 national title game appearances, numerous wins and appearances in the NCAA tournament. But no national title.

Give me Arky’s “overrated” basketball history any day because of that one glorious 1994 season.

I'd give UF the edge if we're only talking NCAA tournament success. Arkansas is the clear 2 if we're talking regular season + post season.

Yeah that Arky championship team was pretty badass and fun to watch. I remember that game and couldn't help but pull for them.

And yet that won't save you from LSU running through you in the SEC tourney.

History did not start 20 years ago it is you know...history. Arky had some damn fine teams under Sutton before Nolan ever got there. Heck were a final four team in what 78 and like 6 in total.

Is this a serious thread?

quote:

They've only won one SEC regular season championship

2 - 1992 & 1994

quote:

one SEC tournament championship 2000

Who cares about the SECt?

quote:

I know they have a national and that early 90s run was impressive. But they haven't won anything of significance In what is now over 2 decades.

National titles and playing for a national title are kind of big deals.

- Final Four Appearances in 3 different decades
- 8th All Time in Final Four Apperances
- 16th All Time in NCAA Tournament wins
- Top 15 All Time in Elite 8 Appearances
- Top 20 All Time in Sweet 16 Appearances
- Top 13 All Time in Overall Program Win Pct.
- Top 11 All Time in Conference Titles Won
- One of only 10 schools remaining with less than 1k losses

No Arkansas fan states that the program is a Blue Blood, but it is not very far behind one or two programs that claim to be a blue blood (looking at you Indiana & Louisville).

Nolan was a good coach that killed his image by race baiting. Other than that they are not even a blip on most folks radar. Their brand isn’t known, they play a really bad style of ball (needs refs to misinterpret what is a block vs a charge).

Is Arkansas's basketball history overrated?

I googled all time basketball wins. Arkansas is #29 in the nation and #2 in the SEC, which is 28 spots behind Kentucky (#1 in the nation), and 4 spots ahead of Alabama (#33 in the nation and #3 in the SEC).

So about where I expected they would be.

All time basketball wins isn’t helpful without context of when each team started, why win % is better overall.

Not a heck of a lot of difference. Kentucky is still #1 in the nation, Arkansas is #19 in the nation, and Alabama is still #3 in the SEC and is #36 in the nation.

Top 20 and top 30 are pretty big difference. We're 10 spots higher when you go by percentage
