Everything that Saban did, every single recruit that committed, it was all over covered and ESPN was basically just 24/7 coverage of giving Saban blow jobs.
This is just wrong; ESPN and the press in general hammered Saban initially because he had said he was not taking the Alabama job. It took a while - and the success of his second season (2008) - for them to realize the Bama/Saban partnership had a chance to be special.

To be fair, Bowl was probably 12 at the time and doesn’t remember 2007 too vividly. Or 2008 for that matter. Starting 12-0 in 2008 got the media off Saban’s back.

No, Mark Emmert would not be denied In pulling a relatively-unknown Saban out of Big10 country and the rest is history. LSU and Bama fans have reaped the benefits of this bold move ever since.
It was a move that transformed the whole league, allowing the arms race in the SEC to begin and wildly accelerate throughout the new century.

Why are all barners so unlikeable?

I was in HS when Saban got hired, I remember it plenty well. In fact I was friends with one of the very first players to commit to Saban at Bama in that 07 class, so I probably have more insight than you about how Saban and Bama were recruiting at the very beginning.

This thread wreaks of the typical sadness and desperation of the always inferior Auburn fanbase.28-7

I don’t claim to have inside sources, but I did know trainers and people in the recruiting staff early in the Saban era. None of them are there now. I went to school with most of them at Alabama.

It’s a great run.
Of course they’ve had a good bounce or 2, but to be in position for a break to make a difference every year is a sign of excellence.

The guy I was talking about actually does work at Bama under Saban now. I don't talk to him anymore unless we run into each other and catch up for a minute, but those conversations never include football.

Most of the time you make your own luck. What separates Coach Saban from most is his work ethic, attention to detail, and his wiliness to see the project through to the end. His hobby is building and maintaining teams.
The ONLY one that can stop him is his wife. The day she says that is enough is the day that Coach Saban retires (actually the hour.)
May that time be far, far away....

I think all other teams are lucky Bama hasn’t won 2-3 more championships in the last decade.

Auburn fan calling another team lucky.
That’s rich.

We all know Saban is probably tGOAT, but I think even the most homer of Bama fans will admit that Saban wins by having more talent than anybody else, and that what makes Saban elite is his ability to stockpile all that talent.
Saban has his only undefeated team with Shula’s players.
