There's always a degree of luck involved when you have that much success, to say otherwise is just arrogant.
But its not possible to have that much success and sustain it at an elite level over such a long period of time and have it be JUST luck. To suggest that is 100x more stupid than to say there was none.
But I will say that Bama's dynasty had a huge outside boost right at the very beginning that doesn't get talked about and a positive impact on the start of their dynasty.
That's the media coverage of Saban and Bama. Right from Day 1 ESPN and all the sports media outlets, and all the local media immediately anointed Saban as the savior, immediately proclaimed Bama as back. People get annoyed by how the media blows Saban and Bama now, but it was just as bad if not worse at the start when everything was still new. Everything that Saban did, every single recruit that committed, it was all over covered and ESPN was basically just 24/7 coverage of giving Saban blow jobs.
We all know Saban is probably tGOAT, but I think even the most homer of Bama fans will admit that Saban wins by having more talent than anybody else, and that what makes Saban elite is his ability to stockpile all that talent.
Thats why it was so huge that the media immediately created that perception for Saban and Bama. There's no telling how much of an instant impact that had on the recruiting trail and how much faster that allowed Saban to build his powerhouse.
hmmmm

Luck= preparation + opportunity.
And no one does it better.
And no one does it better.

This is just wrong; ESPN and the press in general hammered Saban initially because he had said he was not taking the Alabama job. It took a while - and the success of his second season (2008) - for them to realize the Bama/Saban partnership had a chance to be special.
And let's not forget all the ones who tried to say that Saban was the Larry Brown of college football and would be gone in 2 years.

It's just not fair that Shula never got to coach Julio, Ingram, Richardson, Barron, and Mt. Cody after working so hard to get them on campus.

Shula never would have coached Julio anyway. iirc, Auburn was the favorite for Julio and Upshaw until Saban was hired

2008 - Tim Tebow, trailing in the 4th quarter of the SEC championship, decides to become an accurate passer, coming back to defeat Alabama and denying Saban his first championship
2013 - numerous plays should have ended the Iron Bowl well before the kick six.
2014 - Cardale Jones is inhabited by Tom Brady
2016 - refs lose their flags, can't call blatant offensive interference
Alabama should have 9 titles under Saban. Bad luck has stopped us from being a true dynasty.

I thought Oklahoma was the favorite for Julio. It's been a while obviously so I don't remember much, but I seem to remember Oklahoma being the main one in contention for him other than Alabama

After 2013 and 2017, I can't believe an Auburn fan wants to talk about luck or choke jobs!
