national brand

So when one game features two schools from different states with a combined population over 4 times that of the game that features two schools from the same state but only has double the number of viewers, you consider that as “national” branding?

Seems more like one of those games had to rely WAY more on its local population than the other.

I get ratios are hard for some folks but this one is so simple even OSU grads should grasp it.

All aspects of college football interest me. I would be posting about ratings even if my team was not a big draw.

It would not have mattered. Switch the ratings and Ohio State vs Michigan would still be the bigger game.

Ohio State/Michigan more than doubled the ratings of the Iron Bowl.

All those people saw all those 5 star players on Ohio State get their shite pushed in by a team made up of 3 stars for the 3rd year in a row!

@RollingwiththeTide told me know one outside of Ohio & Michigan cares about The Game.

Was she wrong or do those two states have an exorbitant number of tv sets?

I watched plenty of Iron Bowls and they are for the most part exciting but the Michigan/Ohio State game is just boring Big 10 football.

Auburn was 9th in the conference, which BIG game involving the 9th ranked team even came close?

While both states have large populations, both have large fanbases across the nation. THE GAME had playoff-like numbers because the nation tuned in, something a regional rival cannot do.

Ohio State vs Michigan is often mentioned alongside the Yankees vs the Red Sox or Lakers and Celtics.
