I think he does stay and NIL has made head coaching that much more difficult

I don't think Kiffin is going anywhere for those reasons.

He doesn't have to do much more (maybe win an SECCG?) to be the greatest to ever do it at Ole Miss.

Florida and LSU have been dysfunctional (especially Florida) and unpredictable.

If I'm making good money at Ole Miss, why would I want to be a part of that shite show?

I read that supposedly Sark wants out of Texas and go to the NFL, because of NIL is frustrating for him, supposedly he is being pressured to play Manning due to all the financial investments made,

Boy is he going to be surprised when he gets to the NFL and has to play his first round draft pick QB for the same reason.

You make some excellent points, but there are a number of things that you failed to mention.
Firstly, you failed to mention the elite facilities that the "powers" have managed to build over the years. The Alabamas, Oregons, Texas', etc. have 5* accommodations (especially the dining halls ),not to mention experienced staff to take care of any need a player may have.
That leads us to the 100,000 + capacity stadiums they offer.
Finally, the relationships with ALL aspects of the big-time college football world (broadcast and promotion included).
People (a/k/a staffs) can come and go, but it takes years to complete the construction of a truly elite college football program.

And 95% of the players now a days don't give a shite about any of that.

If Kiffin stays in Oxford

I was told Oxford, MS is for lovers. Soon to become the Vow Renewal capital of the world. You ol' baws just need to take your wife to The Grove and she'll jump your bones like you're in your 20s again. She won't even care about buyouts or 10 year contracts.

Baton Rouge smells like piss balloons, while Gainesville smells like pigshit. Even a 100M buyout isn't worth it.

The fact that most of the hacks at ESPN will now have to do actual research for their opinions instead of relying on the logo on the side of the helmet is pretty hilarious.

Did you know Trinidad Chambliss played D2 football?! And Ryan Williams is 17 years old!?

Espn hires so many lazy talking heads with unoriginal takes.

Does Kiffin strike you as a guy that just settles? He’s what, 50?

I don't think it's a terrible point, but I'm not sure Kiffin is the benchmark here.

Wouldn't it be someone like Cignetti who has an undefeated team and Indiana just made him a top 3 paid coach? Indiana was a bottom 10 P4 job just 5 years ago

Cignetti and Kiffin are both benchmarks, and so is Drinkwitz to a degree. They are all in total control of their programs where they get to do what they want, and the boosters and school administration dont bitch at them and try to force their way

Kiffin is a bit of a wild card, if they make the playoffs this year I dont see why he would leave.

quote:

Of course this all goes out the window with the quickness if LSU offers to pay his buyout of $15 million and then pay him $12 million a year for example

I dont think there is any chance Cignetti coming to LSU, PSU would have been the better culture fit for him and he turned that down fast, maybe its his age but I cant imagine that guy tolerating having to play nice with boosters / AD. He even put in his contract that if their current AD or school president leave that his buyout gets halved

You’re not fooling anyone; you were crying as you replied to this post. Florida, more than any other program, wants OP to be wrong, as the only thing you’ve been holding on to for the past two decades is the hope that traditional powerhouses still have an edge that no longer exists. You can’t make jokes about the MS schools moving to the Sunbelt so they can be more competitive because deep down you know you’re firmly in that same situation. It’s sad it’s taken you this long, we all knew it when you had no choice but to hire Billy Napier. Your program is the definition of a has been and will never recover to your former glory.

If Kiffin left for Florida, do you seriously think that OM would still be better than Florida? UF would have a better roster and a better team in year 1. Kiffin makes OM good and OM would be worse without him.

Not saying he should go, he has it made at OM with $$$ and lower expectations. Mullen should have stayed at State, he (and State) would be much better off now winning 8-9 games per season and making probably $8 million a year.

If Lane Kiffin is still coaching in Oxford in 2026, it becomes a powerful statement about how much college football has changed

Or some people like less stress that comes from Ole Miss over LSU, UF, etc

This is the exact thing the portal and NIL is destroying. You are talking from the days of Alabama sitting 5 stars on the bench, because that was their only option to make the pros and get paid. Players now are making more than some NFL players during their college years.

18-22 year olds do not want to sit on the bench for maybe a chance to go to the NFL, they want to play the game and get paid at the same time. NFL scouting has got to the point, it does not matter what school you played for either, if you are good you are getting drafted. The more exposure and playing time the better,

This is the new normal, not what you posted.

Wtf are you even talking about, they missed the playoffs last year, lost to FSU and haven’t won a Natty this decade. But they figured out NIL…yea, ok…
