You guys definitely have a good shot, though. I think next year will be down, especially with a lot of the top teams losing their QB's (Bama, Clemson, OSU, ND, etc.). UGA might be preseason #1.

Clemson's run from 2015-2020 was outside the range of any sort of reasonable expectation 6+ years into Dabo's regime.

That's when they figured out how to steal signals. ;)

Yep. If a coach can’t win a natty in his first 6 years of being a HC, he’ll never win one.

QB play. The guy literally is a recruiting genius. That's the way he plays to win the game. But without a qb, all other 21 positions can be trumped.

We had Fromm and were close. Then Fields left and we never got to see where he would have taken us. Fields would have been the guy in 2019. This past season was turned upside down when Jamie Newton left. But now we have JT and Brock is on the way in.

I get that people criticize Kirby for his in-game coaching, but I think he needs to realize that his strength is recruiting. There is nothing wrong with that. But to win at that game, you need a qb most importantly and that is something we have had in only 1/2 of the seasons since he's been here (last season not considered since JT came in after we were basically eliminated).

No because they're losing their entire secondary, have to play Clemson in the first game of the year, and JT Daniels really is not that good.

What are you talking about? It took Saban 10 years to win his first natty.

I wonder what is the most seasons at a school before a coach wins a championship. Bobby Bowden is the obvious answer at 18 years, but who would be next?

Lol right right... I forgot 2030 is when the clock starts for Kirby. The first 15 years he gets a pass

New to head coaching and all...

Tom Osbourne is the first name that comes to mind. I believe he was Nebraska HC for 22 years before he got one.

As long as he keeps winning the East and recruiting in the top 5 they have a chance. That being said, gotta beat probably 2 of 3 of Bama, Clemson and/or Ohio State in a given year (or occasionally an ascendant LSU or Auburn). Kirby hasn’t shown that he can hang with equal talent yet.

Take the Braves making the playoffs twenty something years in a row, you would wager they fall into more than one World Series win, but alas...

So after some quick research (last 30 years or so), Osborne and Bowden are obviously outliers at 22 and 18 years, respectively. After that the longest is 9 with Bill McCartney's shared title at Colorado. The rest are 8 years and under, so Kirby has a few more yearss before the natives have a big reason to get restless.

You must be if you expect Smart to have better results than Saban. Took Saban and Dabo longer than 6 years to win a natty. Also, 2025 will be year 10 for Kirby, not 2030.

There's a reason it hasn't happened yet and that reason is he's not a great head coach.

We've been a QB away. Daniel's might be able to get it done

Bobby Bowden beat Nebraska up so many times in the Orange Bowl and Miami too. Finally, Bowden told Osborn his white DBs weren't scaring anyone. Finally, Osborne recruited some speed on the backend of his defense.

Interesting. Alabama is the only team in the country that has the benefit of the doubt when it comes to new starters on the line. Returning JT should ease the pain a little.
