Oxford is consistently rated as one of the top small towns in all of the country.
Who made shite up? It was a few years ago that Burger King won that award in Starkville (some sort of people's choice award).

Of course it is. OM sends out the websites to vote on these sort of things. They buy advertising and run it like magazine articles. Image matters to Oxford and Om folks. Good for them

With the built in advantages of being a private school
Schlossnagle, despite five trips to Omaha, is also keenly aware of the limitations of coaching at a high-tuition private school like TCU. How do you tell a highly regarded high school recruit to turn down a professional contract, and then ask his family to make up $20,000 or more in tuition to play baseball at TCU?

Where would you prefer to spend your days working?

or here:
I'll give those rednecks this, they are arguably building the best stadium in college baseball. I can't wait to see it once it is completed.

TCU doesn't have a program similar to what Vanderbilt has?
ETA: I'm talking about Vanderbilt's Scholarship Endowment. I wouldn't be surprised if TCU has something similar.

Yeah, but it’s much shittier baseball than SEC. Also, his scholarship limitations is unreal. He’ll have free rein at State to get the players he wants and much easier than he would at TCU. When will this stigma that Starkville is a complete shithole end? While it’s not a great big city, it’s a well manicured, low crime, college town that eats, sleeps and breaths college baseball. A dream situation for a baseball guy.
Not that SEC is the end all in baseball, before Skip -- the SEC had only won one national championship in baseball. The total is 12. By comparison, the Pac-10 has 28. But that's likely due to the favorable weather conditions on the west coast and it being more conducive to year-round training.
And everyone knows the SEC is a football-first conference.
I always thought Starkville was nice enough. Logistically, it presents a few obstacles (as all rural locations do), but those are surmountable.
Fort Worth has a small town feel still, though it has DFW airport, the entire Metroplex, far more brick and mortar locations for goods, real BBQ brisket, and a few other things we enjoy.
Obstacles for TCU include a new AD. Don't know if he's up to the challenge and this will be his first real test. Budgets aren't typically made public or are obfuscated to a degree because it's a private school.
At one point (years ago), many MSU fans were certain they were going to get Coach P. Never did materialize, partly due to his wife being a Fort Worth gal, the lack of amenities in Starkville (she worked at the zoo, and Starkville didn't/doesn't have one), etc.
As for winning a national championship, it's far easier to win one than a football championship. Many schools from Pepperdine, to Rice, to Fresno State, to numerous others have won them -- regardless of conference. So, I don't think that factors into things as much as people think.
The CWS eliminates the conference dynamic to a large degree. Coupled with the fact that MSU has never won one either, could conceivably put things on a more even footing than many suspect.
That being said, if the AD bricks or fumbles the ball, he could easily go. He's a great coach and he is beloved in Fort Worth and by TCU fans. But at MSU, the pressure to win would be vastly increased and his job security would take a major hit. So, there's that to consider.

Until it’s official I don’t believe he’s leaving TCU.

Anyone who would turn down a SEC baseball school would have to be crazy.
TCU will always be TCU.

Someone correct me if I am wrong but from what I have read they don't. Tuition is 60k at TCU too. Kids either pay all or get the quarter scholly.

Just went do some internet searching and it looks like TCU does have an endowment program but it isn't as large as Vandy's and competition is hot and heavy for the scholarships. Looks like he was able to use the program until the completion grew.
Also, that 60k tuition figure is for a year and includes room and board and meals. When I hear tuition I think it is for a semester.

How did you come up with 1/4 scholly?
27 players and 11.7 schollies. I’m sure TCU gives some of the stud pitchers they bring in more than 1/2 schollies....they don’t focus on the position players nearly as much except for the occasional Luken Baker or Josh Watson. But I bet you a guy like Lodolo ain’t paying a lot of tuition.

TCU players get a few breaks on tuition, but end of the day they are coming out of pocket for far more dollars than most schools. Pending tuition increases will only increase the recruiting challenge @ TCU.
Schloss has TCU as the current best program in the state over the last 7 years, he has done a remarkable job.
The recruiting headaches are the only reason I could see him leaving... Schloss has a pretty good set up otherwise.
