I guess the "gameday experience" has passed me by.

I went to a rave last night and a football game broke out intermittently.

I am old too. But I would be more pissed if I was a FSU fan and the lights didnt work on a nationally televised game.

They are just trying to manufacture the fun that came naturally pre-NIL/portal era

I was sitting there thinking the same. 6 yrs of averaging 5.5 wins and the fun has to be manufactured.

I remember going to AU vs SCsometime between 04-06 and nobody would even yell with me to make noise on 3rd down. Wish there was manufactured hype back then to make the experience better than just standing in the heat around a bunch of spectators.

Part of it is just how much damn stoppage of play there is now, too. So many commercials, refs wanting to make things about them, reviews, etc. it is very hard for a crowd to stay constantly engaged.

Obviously that’s only a portion of what has increased the use of media and such, but it is definitely a factor.

Please don't forget what next week's fan color scheme is! (whatever in the world it is).

White shakers my arse - never!

Kids jersey and game day shirts, Dads 2 to 3 year old off brand or branded AU polo, 1 out of 20 adult men in a jersey, and students with orange and blue shakers only! Please.

I was in school in the early 90s, and i'm biased, but I think that was prime Gameday. You could basically pull up next to the stadium and park (for free, no less). The only in game music was the band - and even though all us students listened to everything from Led Zeppelin to Nirvana to Megadeath to 60s Motown, we didn't demand, expect, or even desire for that music to be pumped into the stadium at the highest level possible during any possible break in the action. It was an added bonus if the band shot into Whole Lotta Love or Louie Louie.

We were the 'kids', the students, but we also had enough sense to realize that the game was a communal experience, that any age should be able to enjoy

Tickets were $20 face value, which adjusted for inflation is only around $47 dollars. And student tickets were like $20 for the entire season.

So yeah, some of us Gen X'ers and Boomers are wet rags or whatever you want to call us, but we simply were spoiled by the peak experience that was taylored for fans, and not for the almighty dollar, ESPN, or solely the whims of a bunch of 20 year olds.

Graduated in 82, I was in a frat most of us in the ole uniform, penny loafers, khakis, white button down, Auburn striped tie and blue blazer.

For the Georgia game I dressed the same, only with no khakis, went to the game in my boxers with the coat and tie. At the gate security asked what was the purpose for the lack of pants.

I said "Sir I am an Auburn man and a gentleman, being that we are about to beat the pants off those hairy puppies, I felt, as a host it was my duty to make them feel at home".

With a strait face security said "You sir are an Auburn man and a gentleman, proceed and enjoy the game".

Had a party at the house afterward, then on to supper club, various other places I cant remember, it was a cold fall night.

Woke up went straight to the infirmary and stayed 11 days with mono and strep throat......and it was worth every one of those 22 penicillin shots they gave me.

I've been the old man yelling at the weather for years. Game day in JHS needed no improvement. 1993 JHS was peak.

The only thing I will continue to complain about is the pre-game cheerleader mic man routine. It gets worse and worse every year. It is such a joke. Used to be about getting the crowd involved in things, now it is just two minutes of him talking into the mic and you can't even hear the crowd.

Yea, listening to that fake voice yell "let's go big blue let's go" over and over really does it . Back when it was getting half that stadium to chant auburn and the other tigers, or doing the colors in between Bodda Getta and such was much better. The less we can hear those morons on the mic, the better.
