I don't get the confidence in Sam Leavitt being good

His stats for 2025 were:

1,628 yards (107th nationally)
10 TDs (103rd nationally)
65.8 QBR (49th nationally)
3 INTs (Tied 6th nationally [only good stat])
...and he lost to Mississippi State last season

I'm sure he will improve under CWJ but to be in the top half of the SEC, that would have to be a hell of a jump.

He will statistically be a top 5 QB in the conference no doubt about it

There’s no reason a D2 quarterback should’ve been good in the SEC

Leavitt has had moments sure but it’s pretty clear the preseason hype he’s getting is an indictment on the belief people have in a Kiffin QB(and rightfully so)

I think the 2025 stats are somewhat meaningless because he got injured in like week 4.

Otherwise, he's probably being a little overhyped, just due to potential and not necessarily actual performance.

Looking at 2024, he threw for 2900 yards and 24 touchdowns. Ran for about 450 and 5 more touchdowns.

Hopefully he can make a Jayden Daniels-esque leap.

Kiffin and Weiss had enough confidence in him to make him a priority. I’ll trust their evaluations over Landmass.

No, I really don't. He's average at best.

Thanks Sidewalk. This does explain it a little more.

He was a priority because he was about the only decent transfer portal QB left and your QB room had cobwebs growing in it.

Wasn't he like the top ranked transfer or something?

He was ranked #1. Just like LSU’s 2025 portal class was ranked #1. That worked out great. Without that number one ranked transfer class there is no way LSU could have gone 7-6.

Go check out Jackson Dart his first season under Kiffin. He was absolute arse. Corral had a 7 interception game against Arkansas in his first season under Kiffin. Austin Simmons was arse too.

I watched Lane Kiffin turn a converted RB into an All-SEC QB at Alabama so my default is that if Kiffin made him a priority he thinks he can win games now.

Frankly I didn’t think Daniels was that impressive at ASU and now I think he mightve had the best season any QB has ever had in the SEC.

Jackson Dart - 2022

226/362
62.4% completion percentage
2,974 yards
20 touchdowns
11 interceptions

128 rushes
614 yards
1 touchdown

I mean I get that isn't great but it isn't "absolute arse" either.

Break it down by SEC games. Specifically big SEC games.
He threw one or zero TD’s against half the SEC teams he faced. Crucial turnovers in big games. Got absolutely rolled by “roster depleted LSU in terrible head coach Brian Kelly’s first year”. But you didn’t know that.

And he is infinitely more talented than Sam fricking Leavitt. And the big jump for Kiffin QB’s is year 2. But you also didn’t know that.

Never gets old though having lsu fans tell us what Kiffin teams are like and just laughing at the delusion.

You're wrong about pretty much everything you say, maybe you'll be right this time. I guess we'll see.

Yeah I’d hope so too if my QB was that dog shite against Mississippi state for TWO SEASONS.

No he wasn't. He was a young QB in a new system. He had some mistakes but he also had flashes of brilliance.
