How would you rank SEC basketball coaching hires this off season?

I'll go:
1. Buzz Williams (won at 2 different programs. Proven winner)
2a. Nate Oats (Unknown how he will do in a bigger conference, but won at Buffalo which can't be an easy thing to do. Has potential to be great)
2b. Eric Musselman (same as Oats, won at Nevada and has potential to be great)
4. Jerry "I'm gone frick up" Stackhouse
All in all....... SEC stacked, rest of the country fricked

I think you have them ranked correctly.
Buzz is a known quantity and a great coach.
The next two have shown potential, but that doesn't always pan out.
I'm not sure Vandy is any better off with Stackhouse then they were with Drew.

Buzz is #1 - proven P5 coach
Mussellman and Oats are both interesting hires of guys very respected and with great mid major success. However, that doesn't always mean much. But them co #2
Stackhouse is just a total wild card. He has some interesting positives that other NBA to College guys didn't (player development) and you'd think he'd be decent at recruiting. Honestly, his resume strength and weakness is similar to Mussellman's when he came to college ball (minus Mussellman's short HC stint in Sac).

Oats---Just listen to him and you can tell he's a bball nerd.
Buzz---won at Vtech but Seth Greenberg didn't leave that program in a blackhole as some folks claim.
Musselman---did great last year but this year was disappointing.
Stackhouse----LOL, AD gave his friend a job and guess what if by some miracle Jerry does great then he'll be in Chapel Hill after Roy retires. Basically Vandy is a trial run.

He didn't take over for Greenberg. He took over for James Johnson. Johnson went 22-41 overall and 6-30 in the ACC in the 2 years before Buzz came.
That program was bad when he arrived.

I don't think anyone made a terrible hire. I like Buzz Williams and think he's going to do well at TAMU, but his average record at VT was only about 1 game better than Greenburg. I'm not convinced that he's a superior hire than anyone else.

He didn't take over for Greenberg and he went to 3 NCAAT in 5 years, including his last 3 years in a row, while Greenberg went to 1 in 9.
Greenberg's record is only close because their OOC schedules were trash and he won NIT games.
Buzz went 42-30 in the ACC his last 4 years

He even really underachieved in the NIT. Was a top 2 seed 4 different times and never made it to MSG.

What was disappointing?
Muss went 110-34 in 4 seasons at Nevada, winning 3 league regular season titles and one conference tourney title. He won 75% of his league games in 4 seasons.

Trent Johnson and Mark Fox looked good at Nevada as well.
