Agreed. But, that’s where the age thing starts to be a factor. The younger Saban would have fired him at halftime in Knoxville and told him to Uber home.

On paper he did last year.

I think the game has passed Saban by.

Sure, they recruit insanely well, on reputation. But he used to control every aspect of the game at one time.
He gave up the offense a few years back, after conceding you had to score 40 pts a game to win it all; and he seems similarly hands-off on the defense the past couple years.

Now, he just brings in a ton of talent, and is basically a spectator on the sidelines.

They lost on the road to good teams by 3 points and 1 point. I would pump the brakes on Saban's supposed demise.

Very good analysis. Bama fans aren’t going like it.

Well, an Aub would damn sure know about coordinators.

Because all of their draft picks were totally cucked by true freshmen like Will Campbell, Emory Jones, Mason Taylor, and Harold Perkins.

Saban is obviously the goat, but last year was not his finest. The talent on that team was stupid…

Bryce Young (R1, No. 1)
Will Anderson (R1, No. 3)
Jahmyr Gibbs (R1, No. 12)
Brian Branch (R2, No. 45)
Tyler Steen (R3, No. 65)
Byron Young (R3, No. 70)
Jordan Battle (R3, No. 95)
Cameron Latu (R3, No. 101)

Nick Saban's head wasn't in the game and it was obvious.

His teams at Alabama have always been a reflection of him and last year, that team was klutzy and unfocused.

Just like a headcoach who stayed preoccupied with insurance commercials, car dealerships and hotel ventures. For a guy who spent almost 20 years preaching against "clutter", he was frickin' filthy with it. Don't believe the bullshite. Last season had nothing to do with the bookends. Saban has won with less on the sidelines and in the booth.

If he dances with the date that brung him this season and rediscovers his inner dickhead, that everyone believes he is, then Alabama wins the conference. But if he keeps the same lacsidasical approach he had last season, then more of the same.

It all lies with him and his attitude. It always has.

According to the SEC they did win the west ?

So, you are admitting the SEC media department is in the tank for bama?
2 losses in the western division excludes bama from being western division champs.
It must still hurt.

You do realize that LSU claims SEC West "titles" for 96 and 97, right?

I didn't state that to troll; I really think it's begun to happen.

I remember Saban at LSU, and I remember what a Saban team used to be like. Elite defense (with great individual technique), limited mistakes on offense, raging intensity and focus on the sidelines from the big (little) guy. Game would get tight, one of his defenders would make a play (that the announcers would dissect and state "look at how advanced his actions are, he played that perfectly"), Saban would then praise that guy as they came off the field, because he taught them how to do that. Even later at Alabama, you could see the chessmatch on the field. He'd have the perfect lineup and plays called.

We saw the cracks a few years ago, someone would go no-huddle and he couldn't make in-drive adjustments, and suddenly they were mortal. Defense went from shutting teams out, to giving up 30 pts.

He gave up the offense and just allowed aggressive calls with elite talent, and won by scoring 40 in those games.
He now allows the defense to swim out there, hoping to win with talent alone.

But with UGA, Tennessee and LSU catching back up with talent, you have to coach again; and I don't think he's still as motivated to keep doing it.

Not according to the rules set forth by the athletic conference that both LSU and Alabama agreed.

If you have a problem with the SEC awarding Alabama a SEC West Championship last season, the problem you have is with the SEC

You are dumber than a clear plastic sack of hammered dog shite.

I noticed the decline against Miami the year before. I think Kirby was a bigger piece of bama's success than people give him credit.

The problems that got them beat after his injury were ones that existed before his injury. BY’s injury definitely made it harder to improve the passing game in-season but receivers struggled to create separation all year. Defensive mental errors persisted the whole time too.

No denying Saban is The Goat but he is getting older. At this moment Kelly is a better coach.
