How many coaching mistakes did Saban make yesterday?

I haven't seen the game on TV yet, but I did listen to the Auburn and Bama radio broadcasts yesterday. Saban appeared to make several critical coaching mistakes. Let's try to list some (you can add those that I missed):
1. Not kicking a field goal to go up 2 scores and going for it on 4th down inside the 20.
2. Not sitting on the ball with 29 seconds and just wait for OT.
3. If you are going to try to get into field position with two timeouts, why not throw the ball? Lack of time management skills on the field in crunch time.
4. Kicking a 59+ field goal and not having kick coverage personnel in the game (said he had never seen a missed field goal returned - did he not watch OBJ's return on film?) Why wasn't he prepared for this? What if the kick had been blocked instead and returned?

I am sure several of you have others or perhaps I should just go to the Bama board and LMAO.

Not just yesterday.

Sabin spent the entire year not addressing the kicking game.

I think you just about covered it. Definitely had the right to fight for the second but I honestly believe they would have had a better shot at a McCarron Hail Mary pass than going for the Field goal but I think you covered most of them. I was also surprised at his going for it early in the game when it was 4th and 7 and no field goals had been missed yet though it turned into a 4th and 2 and certainly no problem making that. IMO, he did some UN-SABAN LIKE things yesterday.

It was interesting to hear ESPN say that Gus totally out coached Saban last night.

Only one, but it amazes me with all the talent they have that they don't have a good kicker.

Fact is that Saban's special teams at LSU were far from special. Seems to be something that just is with him

He made ONE... not kicking the field goal to go up by 10. It's probably the only decision he's kicking himself over about right now.

I was also upset before half when we didn't use our veteran offense to attempt to drive the field for a last score. I understand running the clock out with an offense like 2009. It was a poor coaching decision with 2013's team.

If Saban had not tried that last field goal and Bama went on to lose in overtime he'd be catching absolute hell for NOT TRYING it when he had a kicker with a leg to do it and the wind at his back. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Attempting the 57 harder absolutely goes on the list. Nobody in college football has made one of that length this year, yet there have been 2 FGs returned 109 for a TD. The chance that a bad result occurred far outweighed the chances of a positive result.

Yesterday looked to me like a vintage Saban team in a big game during his LSU tenure. His teams always used to play tight as all hell in big games at LSU, and Bama was like that all day yesterday.

Yea I didn't have a problem with that. I had more of a problem with the drive before half, the other 4th down call, and just generally not attacking them more in the passing game and using the run to play off that.

Er, no. Opportunities to kick 57 yarders to win tied games don't occur all that often, and he had a shot because he had a kicker with a strong leg.

Nobody had made a 63 yard field goal, either, until Tom Dempsey did it for a win.

or elite cornerbacks. Why can't Alabama regularly have shutdown cornerbacks and a great pass defense with these #1 recruiting classes?

Cyrus Jones, a converted wide receiver, was allowed to play the #2 cornerback spot. He got beat early, but Marshall overthrew the ball, but it didn't matter. Marshall threw for two touchdowns over Cyrus Jones.

It's not the CBs that's the problem, it's the lack of a pass rush. But yeah, I never understood why Saban was loading up on RBs and WRs the last few years while only recruiting borderline 4-star/top 100 guys and converted WRs/athletes at CB.

They're only "mistakes" when the team doesn't execute.
I thought Saban coached a heckuva game.
Gotta give Auburn credit as well.
The 20/20 hindsighters on here sure are gifted.

I thought he did also. saban pulled a seasons worth of Les Mileseses last night. (Les is a great coach LSU fans. I am not saying that he isn't. He just does some dumb stuff on the reg)

Nobody's talking about how wound up the bama players were the 1st Quarter. What was that all about? Did Saban have the team so f'n nervous they couldn't function. I've seen LSU like that but it usually lasts about 5 minutes into the game.
