What about his comment suggested Bama fans were losing sleep over this?

Not sure I'd call them lucky. They had a dominant defensive front 7 and an experienced team that knew how to win close games - they never made mental errors and they got their playmakers at RB and WR the ball in crunch time.

He immediately brought it up, its clearly something on his mind. He thinks its less legit of a title than lsu having a 2 loss team and doesnt consider any other team as lucky as a 13-0 perfect season? I mean there is obvious resentment, its complete nonsense. I can name 100 ridiculously lucky situations that have happened to several teams but nope. Its all tennessee. Luckiest 100% undefeated team ever.

It's funny how every championship team is "lucky"

Yep. Some people just can't accept a rival won something.

That said, luck is ALWAYS involved in any championship team, even the mighty BAMA. For example, not championship team could've lost the players that UT and UF lost and emerged victorious at the championship level. And a large part of winning is staying healthy.

But that's just scratching the service of what it takes.

However, anyone calling an undefeated NC team lucky is out of their ever loving minds. Luck is always involved but what the OP meant is that the team was undeserving and that's pure horeshit. Going undefeated is NOT a matter of luck even when lady luck decides to bless you a couple of times.

Folks need only to look at that roster and the incredible number of draft picks on it to unders0tand why they won. But hey let's ignore the fact that the highest paid DL in NFL history was on that team alongside the second highest paid.

I know that VOLS team was way worse than their record and it took an Erik Ainge pick 6 in the red zone for that 2 loss LSU team to escape lol

Ainge was always a headcase during his time at UT. All the talent in the world but a headcase nonetheless. That said, he didn't know he was bipolar at that point and wasn't in treatment which would've helped him immensely. He was busy self-medicating.

It's truly a wonder that Ainge didn't wind up in jail but growing up in privileged fam certainly helps.

Give this man a trophy. Special teams is and has always been part of the game and several championship/HoF coaches have talked about how often important games come down to it.

Neyland emphasized special teams in the Maxims. As such we've typically spent more time on it. Why should we be punished for it when BAMA recently won an NC by taking advantage of how bad Clemson sucked at ST?

Should have lost to the 2nd worst AU team in the past 40 years as well.

Jumped to a 14-0 lead after their first offensive snap, a 67-yard Jamal Lewis run on the heels of a 90-yard pick 6 in AU's first possession, managed only 130 yards the rest of the way.

Meanwhile AU, behind a true FR 3rd string converted outfielder at QB and a 5th string walkon at center (not an exaggeration), made 8 trips inside the Vols 30 and only came away with 3 FGs. That and the MSU game the following week sealed Bowdens fate as HC.

1) How is a last second 27-yd FG lucky? If anything was lucky, it was a PI flag being thrown on an incomplete pass on 4th and 10 that drive, but it was clearly PI. It was the 1st game of the season and Donovan McNabb was pretty good.
2) Tennessee made plays against Florida and turned them over with their defense (Deon Grant and Al Wilson). Florida had a terrible kicker, so wouldn't call him missing a kick "lucky".
3) Helluva comeback, but this was the luckiest of all. I was there. Still can't believe it.
4) Pretty fortunate to face backup qb, but Tennessee made some big plays on offense in that game. Injuries are part of it. Jamal Lewis got hurt, in comes Travis Henry.

Arkansas game is only one I would consider truly lucky.

I've never been more shocked at the outcome of a football game. I thought WVU was going to skullfrick them and then go on to rout Ohio State for the title. They would have beaten Ohio State badly.

There's a big difference between losing your starting QB and losing your starting RB. Had AJ McCarron's injury in the 2012 Missouri game been season-ending, we more than likely struggle from thereon out, don't beat LSU, and don't make it to Atlanta. If we had lost Eddie Lacy for the year, we had TJ Yeldon and Kenyon Drake right behind him.

Too bad Jamal Lewis got banged up at Auburn. Travis Stephens and Travis Henry were fun to watch. Tee Martin was great that year.

you have to have some luck on your side. Auburn had kick six and miracle in 2013 to make it, Terrance Cody blocked 2 field goals to beat Tennessee in 09, the list goes on. Luck is needed to make it.

Given it was the first game of the year, with Tennessee replacing 7 or 8 starters on defense AND Peyton Manning against McNabb and Syracuse on the road made this an impressive win.

Faced Florida State's third-string quarterback to secure a 23-16 win.

[/quote] I hate when I read this. Chris Weinke wasn't THAT good. What about Tennessee losing RB Jamal Lewis before the season started to a knee injury? Lewis later played for the Ravens.
