Kentucky was a bowl team in 2007.

Yeah, but I bet the 98 Vols still could have taken them.

They were lucky Ohio State had a bad quarter and lost. 1998 Buckeyes were probably the best team in the nation.

1998 Tennessee doesn't come close to being "lucky" or fortunate to win the 1998 title. That honor belongs to 1990 Colorado which had a lot of questionable instances work in their favor.

I think Tennessee in 1998 gets overlooked because Manning wasn't on the team.

97 Tennessee team got throttled in orange bowl by Nebraska. That was Peyton's last game at UT.

Only Arkansas was really a lucky win and the winner of the rematch still would have made the NCG.

As Napoleon pointed out the efficient create their own luck.

UF had something like -19 yards rushing and 5 turn overs against us in '98, three if which were caused by Al Wilson.

But would the '98 Vols have beaten the '07 LSU team?

Would the final score have been as bad as it was when the'01 Tennessee team played the '01 LSU team in the 2001 SEC Championship Game?

Very. Just goes to show you that the NC is not always the best team. It's often the most opportune team.

Nope.

I'd argue 2007 LSU got more luck than 98 Tennessee.

Agreed. 2007 LSU would've beaten 1998 Tennessee even worse than than LSU beat Tennessee in the 2001 SECCG.....or the 2007 SECCG for that matter.

1995 Ohio St. was supposed to wax Tennessee in the Citrus Bowl. They didn't. Just saying....

98 Tennessee had a shite ton of NFL talent. 2007 LSU would've been lucky to keep that game within single digits.

2001 Tennessee had a "shite ton" of NFL talent as well. We saw what happened in the 2001 SECCG........remember?
