Whoever comes down to Gainesville is going to be under instant pressure to win big.

Not many coaches will want to walk into that situation. We'll get stuck with an up and comer again.

Will it be a Butch Jones or will it be a Josh Heupel?

Roll the dice, I guess.

For as much talent as Florida has within it's states borders, it's always perplexed me how more people don't win there. Take away Spurrier and Urban, and the program is mid. This job is tougher than people think.

I doubt they are waiting - it is just a formality

For as much shitt as Auburn takes in here more making bad hires, Florida and Arky are right up there. Tenner was in a rut til they landed Big titties heupel

This has never been true.

The biggest coaching hire blunders have come when a program fires a coach without a very solid plan A and plan B.

You get your ducks in a row, you aim, then you fire.

A couple of counterpoints:

Napier just got almost four years where he was allowed to suck out loud. If the next coach goes 6-6 in year one it will be considered a success.

The schedule the last two/three years was probably the worst schedule any coach could walk into. Not defending Napier but he was behind the 8 ball and the only way to survive it was to be a pretty good coach. Which he's clearly not.

Next year eases up quite a bit.

No they aren't. Possibly with agents but not directly with the coaches. And why would you want Freeman? He's good for a couple of losses a year with a cushy schedule.

Because Freeman is like the poster child to hire for Stricklin and the UAA. Kiffin on the other hand, is not.

Edit and oh yeah...

I remember being skeptical about the peace deal rumblings in the middle east...but when I saw hoopshizz break the story, I knew it was legit

I am going to scream out loud and laugh my arse off if Striklin is allowed to be within a 1,000 miles of your next football coach hire.

In the portal era you have to consider the temperature of the locker room. The trajectory of the UF football program could be very different if guys like Vernell Brown, Dallas Wilson, etc stay vs if they fire someone the locker room is still somewhat behind and they leave. Its also not like anyone who UF would actually hire could be announced yet.

Neither are leaving their current positions in the middle of the season. FL may fire Billy, today, but they won't get either until January.

Haha I just realized why there is so much Marcus Freeman talk to Florida.

He beat Georgia last year.

eta: and Lane did too!

Honestly, anything that Phillip Marshall posts, you should expect the opposite to happen.

I don’t think it’s going to be his pick. I’m going with the boosters are choosing this time around depending on who they can get.

No one thinks that either head coach is actively involved in any negotiations. That's what agents are for, & no agent is sitting on his hands, waiting to react to any development. Agents make those developments happen. Strictly as an aside, Sexton is quite the large, obese even, man.

What the florida people are saying is that Billy was informed of the decision and given the option to coach saturday or not and is choosing to coach.

Whether that's true or not, or a sensible thing to do from and administration standpoint or not, is up for debate.

If it is true, then at minimum it's commendable on Napier's part. They have a bye next week, which would track with the timeline

We never expected someone like Brian Kelly to end up at LSU, did we? Never know.

LSU was a soft landing for a guy that could plainly see his welcome was worn out at Notre Dame. Like Buzz Williams at A&M. Freeman is not in that position.
