Hard to judge MSU off Saturday night. The long rain delay can disrupt routine. I think Rogers is more comfortable in the system with better receivers to boot. Decent running game. I’m concerned about the OLine. The first team defense is solid. Backups were terrible Saturday. Schedule is brutal and it comes down to avoiding injuries. It wouldn’t surprise me if MSU finished second in the west but a 7-5 finish either.

Thought we played a solid game against a solid MAC team. Pretty pleased with the passing game and the new receiving room.

Defense seemed to settle in nicely. The Oline was concerning. We couldn’t run the ball. We’ll get our best lineman back this week so that should help along with when CRod comes back. On film, it looks like there were many times we were just one missed block away from busting a big run so we’ll see against Florida

I was pretty surprised with how well special teams played. Kicking game was good and our returners have the ability to take it for 6

Biggest takeaway was how well the true freshman played. Last years recruiting class was probably our best ever and we had 7-8 true freshman play really well in their debut in meaningful minutes

We will know a lot more after this weekend.

Honestly the west is going to be a free for all for that 2nd place spot.

Tennessee:

Really good offense...mediocre defense...secondary is suspect and pass rush is not very good.

We’re baaaaaaaack against the #136 ranked team in the country.

We suuuuuuck going against the best team in the country.

I see a big improvement this year. Should get to 6-6 and the Independence Bowl.

Our defense is good. We are big, we have a bunch of athletes and NFL level guys. The only ball movement our opponent had was blown coverages. That’s fixable.

The offense is a work in progress. We definitely have some playmakers but the OL wasn’t exactly dominant vs a G5 team and the QB play was up and down.

We have potential. We’ll see

Arkansas still has depth issues. It's a huge drop-off when we have a starter go down.

Arkansas looks like an offense built to run the ball, but wants to prove how good we can sling it instead. (Some variation of the little man syndrome).

Didn't play great in the opener vs a ranked opponent, but we still won. I'd rather be 1-0 working to get better than 0-1.

Offense is really good.
Defense is poor in the secondary.

Hard to tell if a lot of that was Cincinnati scheme was perfect, or if our DBs are just that bad. I suspect both. Will know more this week

If Kayshon catches the 2 TD passes he was passed, we win even with the awful showing.

JD is good enough to win us some games under the right offensive scheme (see 4th quarter of the game).

RBs, OL, and LBs are concerning

Bennett looked much more confident than last year at any point. Tight ends are unstoppable. Never seen a UGA offense that is pass-first then rush. Linebackers are young and need some work. Pass rush wasn't needed, so we'll see. Overall, looks like it'll be a fun year.

To be fair, a lot of those passes are extensions of the run game. We only took a few shots over the top on Saturday. Lanning played a lot of cover 2 and looked to take away the interior run game.

team puts too much into end zone celebrations.
And they weren't that clever or creative either.
Luckily, there will be plenty of opportunities to improve.

LSU is a rebuilding project, but we’ll get there.

A&M has to drastically improve OL run blocking before any talk of contending should occur. As we suspected with King, A&M’s offense is more boom or bust. The downfield passing attack is refreshing. Fisher’s offense doesn’t look outdated with that type of quick strike ability.

Defense looked solid.

With the SEC looking stronger across the board, this year’s schedule looks even harder than it did a couple of weeks ago.

If you don't mind I want to comment on your comment. I know that is not what this thread is meant for, but I am breaking the rules.

Georgia looked to me like Kirby has shaken off the run first mentality that Saban used to have and he has finally modernized the UGa offense. That is a little scary to think about. The biggest knock on Kirby has been his handling of the QB position and offense. If he is going to take the training wheels off of that offense, oh boy, UGa is going to be tough.

Georgia had the fewest run plays of anyone in the SEC and normally when you have a big lead early, you get lots of carries on the ground. I think that prediction from Diddly that Bennett will throw for 4,000 yards might just come true.

The glorified scrimmage knocked some rust off but told us little. Both O and D played very bland ball.

RB is a concern still

The situational DB play bothers me. I get that Burrel is a tackling machine and works in zone but if they have to move to man then he needs to sit

7 WRs had multiple catches in game one. Last year it was pretty much a 4 man rotation so that’s promising

I think they will match up very favorably against Pitt. Pitt had 40 rushes and averaged under 2 yards a carry. Slovis is a proven drop back passer that doesn’t fit Pitts system. He’s never been a guy that can get yards with his legs. If Pitt can’t run then they will get beat.

This is the same offense as last year. Take what the defense gives.

So when Oregon gives uga the perimeter and we do more screens (we did a lot last year) and instead of all toss sweeps, Stetson tosses a jet sweep...

That is the definition of a modern offense?

Do people watch the games or just the boxscores?

Ha! That made me laugh.

Well- now that reality has set in - and can shed the secret hope that maybe unrealistic expectations are in fact unrealistic

- of course disappointed but trying to tip toe around excuses - have to remember they are a young team - and by young I mean new faces mixed with age. Lot of transfers and have to guess the more you bring in - the longer it takes for all to get in sync, unison and all that. New coach, new system, most likely a total overhaul of the entire operation - prob lot of shite being done that is completely foreign to the kids already there - not their fault - they just didn’t exactly have Mr. Professional there before Kelly.

Main thing - I am happy that they fought the entire game - regardless of the mistakes, confusion or anything else - they didn’t give up.

So - if we can see strong progress, and they are competitive throughout the season - all in all should be able to be encouraged for the future. And I do think lsu will end up sneaking in a win or maybe even 2 against a team they are def not supposed to beat ( can’t flush all my hope away!)
