It left vague to provide the room to justify their decision yearly. It has little to do with anything other than making the most money. That's your champion.

This is probably the best answer.

The criteria changes based on what narrative they need to repeat to get the team they want in and keep the teams they don’t want out.

They have shown little consistency with regards to conference championships, quality of loss, timing of losses, style points, and strength of schedule.

Basically, if you’re Alabama, Notre Dame, or Ohio State, they’ll pick whatever convenient narrative gets you in over someone else.

It’s not the 4 best teams

The 2015 season showed us that

They took 11-1(before the big 12 champ game existed) big 12 champs OU over 11-1 Ohio State

Ohio State was better, had a better season too

They showed that year you aren’t passing a p5 conf champ with the same amount of losses

How would the 4 most deserving teams not be the 4 best teams?

Easily, Bama or another conference mate that missed their conference championship is sitting out of the playoff where they are better than and would be favored over someone who won another conference and is in the playoff.

Just curious - have you read their published "Protocol"?

I think in your effort to understand the goal of the committee you may have accidentally sucked off a whole mess of Bama. Usually in this situation its good to consult a mirror, but for you I recommend jumping directly into the shower.

They need to do a ranking for different categories and then average them out. Like 1 for record, 1 for strength of schedule, one for best win, 1 for best loss, etc. All based on their opinions. Then show their rankings for each category.

I'll say right now, we will probably be better than the 4th seed that ends up getting in.

But I will also say we had our chance on the field and did not take care of business, so if we don't get in Bama has no one to blame but themselves.

BUT...what happens if LSU loses in Atlanta? You'll all be singing the praises of Alabama and what a great win that was and how good we are then...WON'T YOU?

Alabama loses to LSU, has no ranked wins, trailed the entire game, and goes to 4
It’s just theatre.

If they dropped Alabama behind all the team’s who control their own destiny there wouldn’t be the buzz leading up to and moment that they JUMPED Alabama.

lol wat? Bama isn’t trash because they lost to LSU. LSU would probably beat every team besides OSU and possibly them. The issue is bama had a soft schedule this year. The pros of only playing 1 ranked team is that you only have 1 game to get up for, but the cons are lose that game and you’re out. If bama had any quality wins they’d be fine. They just don’t have any.

Best record. That's been the only consistent metric.
