Has the Committee ever declared what the specific criteria is for making the playoff?

Is it the "Best 4" or the "most deserving 4"?

If they ever said "we want the best 4 teams in" then Bama as of now probably has to be in IMO.

If its the "most deserving" they we have plenty of other story lines at play here, but we cant lie to ourselves and say that Bama is not one of the "best 4" in the land.

Just curious if any members have said what exactly they are looking for in the 4 teams.

Asking for Clyde Edwards-Helaire.

I've always heard their job is to pick the "best four teams in the country".

Period.

It’s eye test + body of work. Bama has zero ranked wins and lost to the only ranked team they played.

so is this "best 4" or "most deserving"?

Massive difference between the statements.

No and it seems to change every year.

It also seems like they want the teams with the most fans so they'll bring in more money.

Nobody knows

Hell look at the Ap and coaches polls

When Florida lost to LSU, they “fell” to 10 in the rankings

And they had a win over a ranked program in auburn and actually led against LSU on the road

Alabama loses to LSU, has no ranked wins, trailed the entire game, and goes to 4

It’s a combination of both. It doesn’t have to be mutually exclusive. They’re looking for the 4 best, most deserving teams. If it’s just a subjective best, why play the regular season? Just take the teams that finished 1-4 in recruiting.

Then we need to know exactly what they are looking for specifically or we are arguing for nothing here.

And Florida was on the road at night in Death Valley and Bama was at home.

Honestly the scores should've been similar.

Not having a weak schedule before playing LSU. And not losing to LSU.

The entire BCS system was built around getting the 4 "Best Teams" in.

The committee has been consistent in choosing the best 4 teams. I'm sure that trend will continue in 2019.

Then we are arguing for nothing on here.

If we dont even know what goal of the Committee is then there is no pointing even presenting points here.

Even if there were specific criteria, you’d still be right

It's really a mix of the two but they did adopt a protocal and it is literally titled:

"How to select the four best teams to compete for the College Football National Championship"

Now the guidelines established for picking the four "best" teams clearly involves some components that look at factors that align with "most deserving" which does include factoring in conference championships for example if the teams are "comparable." At the same time they specifically say the criteria used must provide enough flexibility and discretion to select a non-champion or independent under circumstances where they are clearly one of the four best.

Finally, there is some debate about the removal of a footnote in the original draft of the protocol which read:

"When in doubt, go with Bama."

Although that footnote was removed from the final version of the protocol, some have argued that is continues to be an unwritten rule followed by the committee.

If its the best 4 teams then Bama has to be in as of now.

How many people think Bama is better than Minny? Penn State?

Georgia? I do and not sure how you can think otherwise.

Im not sucking off Bama here, im just trying to understand the GOAL of the Committee.

Agreed. But they aren't going to give the actual criteria because then they can place a lesser deserving team in. Which I don't they've done except once or twice and it was a close argument.

Again, why play the regular season if it doesn’t matter. If you’re just going to base it on a subjective eye test and disregard results, the regular season is meaningless. Best vs deserving is a stupid argument because it’s vague. How would the 4 most deserving teams not be the 4 best teams?
