Nothing to do with race but there's just not enough data on Mel Tucker at this point. Would be an incredibly risky hire.

No he won't

It will be either Tucker or James Franklin. You can bet on that.

[quote]I don’t want race to be a factor either. I’m looking at Tucker maybe not being a home run hire but a cheaper hire with potential. Some of the ones on the list have a lot of stink like freeze, kiffin, Franklin. Honestly I would like Aranda.[/quote
I think Aranda would be a better choice than Tucker

How many African American FBS head coaches have there been?
The % of head coaches that win national championships is pretty tiny to begin with; toss in how few African American head coaches there are and statistically the odds of there being one to win a national title is absurdly low.
I mean, Dennis Green was the first African American head coach for an FBS program (Northwestern, 1981). So we've only had coaches that fit part of that criteria for 39 years (2021's season has yet to be decided).
There have been a total of 86 both recognized and unrecognized national champions in those 39 years; of those 89, 45 were won by different coaches:
Barry Switzer (White)
Bill McCartney (White)
Bo Schembechler (White)
Bob Stoops (White)
Bobby Bowden (White)
Bobby Collins (White)
Bobby Ross (White)
Brian Kelly (White)
Butch Davis (White)
Dabo Swinney (White)
Danny Ford (White)
Dennis Erickson (White)
Don James (White)
Ed Orgeron (Neanderthal)
Fred Akers (White)
Galen Hall (White)
Gary Patterson (White)
Gary Pinkel (White)
Gene Chizik (White)
Gene Stallings (White)
Howard Schnellenberger (White)
Jackie Sherrill (White)
Jim Tressel (White)
Jimbo Fisher (White)
Jimmy Johnson (White)
Joe Paterno (White)
John Cooper (White)
Kyle Whittingham (White)
Larry Coker (White)
LaVell Edwards (White)
Les Miles (White)
Lloyd Carr (White)
Lou Holtz (White)
Mack Brown (White)
Mike Gundy (White)
Nick Saban (White)
Pat Dye (White)
Pete Carroll (White)
Phillip Fulmer (White)
Ron Meyer (White)
Scott Frost (White)
Steve Spurrier (White)
Terry Bowden (White)
Tom Osborne (White)
Urban Meyer (White)
At present, there are only 8 African American head coaches at P5 programs:
Dina Babers - Syracuse
James Franklin - Penn State
David Shaw - Stanford
Herm Edwards - Arizona State
Mel Tucker - Michigan State
Mike Locksley - Maryland
Jimmy Lake - Washington
Karl Dorrell - Colorado
Of these 8, Penn State (7th, 5-1) and Michigan State (9th, 7-0) are still within arms reach of the playoffs. Arizona State is the only other P5 team receiving votes with an African American head coach.
Interestingly enough, 25% of P5 teams with African American head coaches are ranked in the top 10, but half of African American head coaches are in the Pac12 (which has only one ranked team).
If you are an African American head coach not in the Pac12, you have a 50/50 shot of being in the top 10.

Admittedly I haven't kept up with the LSU coaching search.
But where the hell is all this African American talk coming from? Did someone in the LSU Admin state they intended to hire an AA to replace Ed O?

I think the OP was just looking at Mel Tucker, who is having a really good season at Michigan State, as an option, which made them wonder about an AA coach winning a national title (coupled with the fact that the last 3 LSU head coaches have won one).

I think Franklin would prefer USC and he would probably kill it out there.
Going to LSU is similar and the SEC west is similar in several ways to the BIG 10 division with PSU. There is always at least one school that will out-recruit you and it is a much tougher division than the other side.
Who in the PAC12 could compete with a USC team loaded with talent and coached well?
Edit --- Is the title of this thread meant to imply black coaches cannot win championships? If so, wow.

I think Lincoln Riley would fail at LSU
I’m not impressed with him. Decent coach with a world of talent at OU who wins in a crap conference and repeatedly gets blown out in the playoffs.
In the SEC he loses 2-4 games a year. Look how many close games OU squeaked by against crappy opponents

Putting aside that the to most of the world the term "football" means soccer...
That is like arguing that Gaelic Football champions are world champions. Sure, you can call it that but it is kind of silly.
