Harold Perkins wont be the best “ linebacker “. He will however ,be the best wrecker of offenses once they quit being cute and put him in the proper role. On the Edge, blitzing, inside delayed blitzes, running side to side, completely taking the edge away- anywhere he can utilize the generational speed and turnover ability he has.

If the coaching staff cant figure out a way to get HP on the LOS and not in coverage, he wont even be All SEC. He is not great at getting off of blocks, but has exceptional talent in disrupting plays when he can flow freely and use his speed and instincts.

Perkins has always been overhyped.

He is a great player.
He was being touted as revolutionary because of some poor opposing offensive gameplans.

So you’re saying Florida has A good player on the team? Because from what I’ve seen, they are garbage.

I haven't watched them. But smart people are saying that Florida has a good defense.

He was deemed a top 3 nfl draft pick before his sophomore season even began.

And during his great freshman campaign (and it was great for a freshman), he would get pulled off the field in goalline because he was a liability on the edge.
That doesn't jive. The hype and getting removed from the field on money downs cannot coexist together.

Perkins won't be the same until they take him out of the ILB slot they've put him in. Makes no sense why the kid has played there.

Georgia inside linebackers get pressure up the middle and on the edge.
It is why Quay Walker and Channing Tindall were 1st round draft picks.
It is why JDJ is a Butkis finalist.

The DC has to fire the inside linebackers though. Shadowing the QB isn't going to do anything but get a few pressures.

I haven't heard anyone describe him as "revolutionary", just as a great player.

That's not true.

They just haven't figured out how to use him yet, which is a totally different problem.

Perk is entirely capable of turning a game around by himself, but not as a traditional linebacker.

Yeah because Perkins isn’t a LB . He’s an athlete and see ball get ball guy . I think kelley is realizing it . Most logical LSU fans seen it in the A&M game last year

Ex Florida LB Tyron Hopper is the best.

It's an interesting conundrum.

He's too small to be an edge player, he will get eviscerated in the run game like you started seeing last season.

The options are basically to teach him to be an ILB or try to convert him to be a box safety thumper type.

If this was 2005, I think you just put him at safety.

However, with the RPO passing game opening up and rule changes, he would be a major liability in coverage.

The answer is to forget the experiment of Perk as a Sam.

Put him at Jack instead of Ovie and switch between Jones and Swinson on the other side.
