Yeah well, Vandy had the number one ranked defense going into last week. They dropped 30 spots in one week. Stats will be much more telling once we add more conference games to them.

Auburn easily has the best shot in the SEC at beating Bama. Problem is we don’t have an ultra-athletic QB that causes Bama problems.

Beating Alabama at what? Number of assistant and former assistant coaches arrested as a result of an FBI investigation.

What beats us a is a NFL talent at QB making throws into tight windows. Stidham appears to have that ability, but time will tell if he proves to be able to do it quickly under pressure.

Alabama is a couple o-line injuries away from being marginal offensively

Week two gave me my answer but I can always watch a shellacking ten beers deep, so bring your defense on.

I mean, sure. That applies to half the country.

Hahaha. He'll get better I think. Guy is basically seeing his first real game action. At Baylor he just threw to wide open receivers down the seam under minimal pressure. I think he'll improve, but how much nobody knows. He's got the tools though.

Unfortunately, Auburn changed their blocking scheme for running the ball (no idea why considering this has always been the strong point of the offense) and now the rushing attack isn’t nearly as successful.

Regarding the passing game, we will see. Jarrett Stidham is an incredible passer, but can the offensive line keep him upright? Who knows.

It does help that Alabama hasn’t looked or performed as well with getting to the passer thus far this season.

Yea the front 4 isn't the same at all in terms of pass rush. However, we looked a lot scarier last week with Evans and Jennings back. That plus the FSU effort make me feel a bit better.

Auburn has a good defense, which can keep a team in games. It also helps that the game is in Jordan Hare. But Bama will still be a road favorite as they probably should.

Honestly I have not watched much of Auburn this year so I don't really know how their team is outside of having a stout defense. I watched a few series in the Clemson game but that't it.

How is this Stidham guy coming along? They really talked him up preseason and then started to sour on him after Clemson now it seems he is getting accolades again for torching Mizzou --- which is good and all but that team is just terrible this year.

Against 1AA team and the worst defense in the SEC perhaps in the past couple years.

I mean, if it's so easy to complete 80%+ of throws during junk games, why don't more qbs do it?

I'm not trying to down the guy but come on. Look at stat lines for QBs against the worst D1 teams and 1AA teams. They generally do that.

Jalen Hurts was 14/18 (78%) vs Fresno State and he's far from a pinpoint passer.

Shea Patterson was 28/35 (80%) vs South Alabama.

Danny Etling was 14/17 (82%) vs BYU

Kyle Shurmur was 15/18 (83%) vs Alabama A&M

The only thing I see wrong with Auburn is their pass protection.
Stidham still needs to be a little quicker with his decision-making too, though. I think these past two games have been great for him however and he seems to be progressing in that regard. He throws a pretty ball nearly every time he lets it go. Most polished passer I remember Auburn having tbh, but he's going to have to continue to improve his general alertness and pocket-awareness. He's still young and fairly inexperienced so that will only come with time.

It's nice to finally see so many drags, slants, and crossing patterns in general after seemingly all deep routes the last few years. We still have to find a way to get open faster. Honestly we need to run the ball better as well. These dives just aren't opening up like they normally do as our line isn't getting the push to which we're accustomed. Gus may need to more heavily emphasize sweeps again to spread things out and open up the field a bit.

It's just hard to say definitively whether we've gotten markedly better in the passing game though, considering our last two opponents. Especially Missouri. They were awful, like in a surprising way. I hate their fans have to go through that. Mercer actually made several nice plays on defense if you watched the game. They forced most of those fumbles and the interception was just a good play on the ball.

No, I did not watch the game. I guess Bama was playing at the same time. I think by the time Auburn plays UGA and Bama, they will have improved their pass protection. Stidham's pocket awareness should be improved by the end of the year as well. Like I said earlier, if Auburn can protect him from MSU's pass rush, then we will know they are improving.

A bit of a tangent I guess, but I hate that this keeps happening. It's been more frequent since the SEC Network launched. I get the whole prime time thing, but fans of both teams love to watch each other's games. You'd think the networks would try to capitalize on our market demand by placing us in different timeslots. Birmingham typically outperforms much larger markets in ratings(in several sports, really, but especially AU/UA games) so I don't get why it wouldn't be a priority honestly.

I'd be fine with AU playing at 11 every once in a while, at least for the shite games. Historically we're awful in early kickoffs, but it would be nice to get to watch both games live without having to catch the Bama replay. I guess there aren't a lot of options considering CBS gets to monopolize the 2:30 slot for conference games but a 3pm kick would work for OOC/rent-wins.
