"It will be an upset if they lose a game," Danielson said. "It's going to take a B- effort by Alabama and an A effort by an opponent in the SEC to beat them."

A trip to College Station, Danielson said, could "get rocky on the road" for Alabama, and Georgia "has a lot of pieces" when he mentions teams who can compete with the Tide.

But one stands out.

"I do believe Auburn (can compete with Alabama,) if they can get their running game going," Danielson said. "They are a legitimate defensive team. I think they will get better as the season goes on. That's a hurdle. ...

"They are a tough hurdle for Alabama, for anyone in this league."

No doubt, AU will improve as the year goes along. Closing with UGA & Bama is still gonna be tough though b/c Bama and UGA will also improve as the season goes on.

We have the best mixture of talent and experience outside of Alabama it's just a matter of can our offensive coaches figure out what to do when just ramming it up the middle every time doesn't work.

History tells us that Gus is unlikely to do that but maybe he will learn to trust his QB and OC as the season goes along.

Auburn probably has more room for improvement because of youth on offense, especially on the OL and at QB

they lost to Clemson by a touchdown on the road...the offense will get a little better. Just takes one funny bounce to pull an upset, I agree with Gary. It's not like he predicted it to happen, just said they had the best chance

Yea I'm not still not sure why people keep talking about Auburn like Tennessee and Florida.

They have things to fix but the talent is clearly there and their defense is extremely good.

Even if they derp around on offense all year they'll still win 9 games. If they get a little better they'll give Alabama and Georgia all they want.

Just like any QB, it takes a little time to gel with WRs/Offensive line. His past two games:

45/54 81.5% comp, 582 yards...

So everything is improving, along with how the offense is called. But I get it, it's Auburn, so flame away.

Against 1AA team and the worst defense in the SEC perhaps in the past couple years.

This weekend will be a nice test to see how things have progressed. Not sure you can take much away from the last 2 weeks.

The only thing I see wrong with Auburn is their pass protection. This does tend to improve over the course of the year for most teams. They have all of the pieces, even an accurate qb, if they could just protect him against the good dlines. MSU has a good dline so we will know more next week.

TOTAL DEFENSE:

1 Michigan 203.3 YPG
2 UTSA 207.0 YPG
3 Clemson 227.0 YPG
4 Auburn 236.3 YPG

...

7 Alabama 248 YPG

However, we have work to do on offense as we're 68th in total offense and 66th in scoring.
