Any state that went through the dust bowl is not southern, but is western.

missouri has cotton and rice fields,

Oklahoma is a top 10 cotton state. Texas is number one cotton state.

But as I've said before...

If you talk to somebody in Idabel, Oklahoma... and you claim that it isn't southern... you might get punched in the mouth.

If you talk to somebody in Alva, Oklahoma... and you insisted that it WAS southern.... you might get punched in the mouth.

It’s close to NW Arkansas. Not a real southern feel anymore, at least not compared to Seark

Do you even know St. Louis at all? It doesn't appear to be the case. You appear to be a case. A basket case. Learn something factual about the city before posting nonsense.

You do know they call this city the Gateway to the West, right? And that Gateway Arch is situated with the opening looking West from the East. It ain't the Gateway to the South. You seem confused.

There are a million maps and arguments but most look like the first one that showed up on a Twitter search. TX, MO, TN, KY no different. OU needs its own designation though. That’s Indian territory.

St. Louis literally turns more southern as you cross the Jefferson County line, gets more and more southern as you hit 55 south to Memphis. The Ozarks also have a southern feel. None of it is swamp-rat southern or GA style southern but it’s damn close to eastern TN, KY and AR.

This is the truth.

North of StL is corn belt. South of StL is jacked up pick-ups Tenn-Kentucky hillbilly. KC is the eastern most western city.

St. Louis is a northern city.

The food, accents, architecture, housing architecture, there’s nothing remotely Southern about St. Louis.

Missouri is more of a western/midwestern/Ozark state with Route 66. Go read the history on the St. Louis arch.

There are way more southern accents in Oklahoma by far.

Oklahoma is where Colorado, Texas, the Midwest, Ozarks, and South come together, a mixture of different regions.

Southern Oklahoma (Hugo, Isabel, Atoka, McAlester) are very Southern.

Oklahoma panhandle is pretty much Colorado/New Mexico.

Eastern Oklahoma is pretty much Arkansas.

I've lived in STL most of my life, and St. Louis does not look to the South for its influence, it has always looked to the East. Witness all the Old Money culture with the great free History, Science and Art Museums, the free world-class Zoo and the internationally renowned Botanical Garden. A lot of that came from Old Money originating in the the East. And we in STL do NOT drink sweet iced tea. It's considered an abomination here by most. I'll grant you that southern Missouri looks more to the South. But KC definitely looks to the West for its influence.

I completely agree. And northern Missouri looks due north. I wouldn’t know the difference between southern Iowa and northern Missouri without signage.

That said, suggesting Oklahoma is more Southern than Missouri is asinine. Missouri had over 30,000 men fight for the South in the Civil War. Oklahoma was Indian Territory. It wouldn’t become a state until 50 years after northern and southern designations were firmly drawn. Southern Missouri is full of cotton fields and Ozark hills. It’s just a two hour drive from Sikeston or Poplar Bluff or Cape to Memphis. Tack on another hour or less and you’re in Oxford.

You do know many of the Native tribes in Oklahoma (Indian Territory) fought for the Confederates right? There were confederate Forts here in Oklahoma as well. I've lived in Oklahoma my whole life and I've been to Missouri many times. I have some family in Missouri and I can definitely tell you Oklahoma is FAR more "Southern" than Missouri will ever be. Spend some time in Southeastern Oklahoma, you'll understand.

History lesson is needed here.

Missou desperately wanted into the Big 10. They campaigned hard for the Big 10. Their governor got involved. They felt they were a good fit for the Big 10 since they were midwestern state a twin to Illinois (east St. Louis). Big 10 said no Missou was not good enough for them. At the time Aggie was begging the sec for admission so to make it an even number addition sec took both Aggie and Missou at same time

St. Louis is the westernmost eastern city and KCMO the most easternmost western city in the state. Both were founded by the Chouteau family.

Look at Soulard for an example of eastern influence.

The Eads Bridge, the oldest west of the Mississippi, was originally the symbol of the Gateway To The West as it connected both east and west by rail.
